
Senior Linux Software Systems Engineer

Meet the team:
The Onboard Platform team provides Linux, FreeRTOS, and SafeRTOS, environments for all Software Engineering teams, in addition to on-vehicle network architecture and timesync, and interfaces for communicating with the vehicle. We support both QM and ASIL applications on a variety of targets such as Aurix and ARM. Projects often impact all levels of the stack from BSP/OS to Applications and usually require cross functional collaboration with other engineering teams. We have a strong passion for technical excellence and compliance with ASPICE and ISO26262.
What you’ll do:
- Ownership of software features end-to-end from concept through delivery.
- Assist in kernel configuration and compilation, and applying custom patches.
- Drive and assist implementation of strong test plans for the Linux operating system.
- Develop software components across the Linux user-space and kernel boundaries to enable integration of key security features and debug tooling.
- Collaborate closely with hardware, systems, and other software teams to integrate features seamlessly across the stack.
- Mentor junior engineers and help set the direction of the program through deep technical analysis.
- Non-comprehensive tasking examples are: assisting in the creation of a secure key management application to interface with OPTEE, optimizing initialization, assisting with triage and debugging of problems in the Linux OS release and writing test cases in Python to fix test escapes, trimming down kernel and rootfs to required components.
What you'll need to succeed:
- Strong skills in modern C++.
- Experience with SystemD or other init systems.
- Strong skills in Python and Docker.
- Strong Linux debugging skills.
- Flexibility to work or debug across all layers of the stack from Device Drivers to Application.
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Bazel.
- Experience leading and improving continuous integration efforts.
- Linux performance optimization.
- Strong understanding of embedded Linux on ARM.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position in California is $174,000 - $261,000 USD. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Latitude employees are also eligible to participate in Latitude’s annual bonus programs, equity compensation, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
