Deputy Communications Lead (Social and Content)

Bay Area, CA

About Laude

Laude Institute is a nonprofit research organization built by and for computer scientists who ship their research. We back impact-driven researchers turning breakthrough ideas into open-weight models, open-source infrastructure, and real-world tools. Our goal is to accelerate the most important research and get it into people’s hands faster. Laude Ventures helps deeply technical founders transform their breakthroughs into breakout companies.

On the Institute side, we are funded by individual technologists and anchored by a $100M commitment from Andy Konwinski. On the Ventures side, our inaugural $150M fund is backed by top institutional LPs and 50+ of the world’s leading computer scientists. Our community includes researchers from the most advanced labs in the world.

About the Role

We're hiring a Deputy Communications Lead to help lead execution across communications and marketing for Laude Institute and its affiliated early-stage venture firm, Laude Ventures. This role is built for someone with deep content experience (journalism preferred) and a strong interest in leading-edge computer science research.

If you thrive in zero to one, mission-driven environments, work well as a creative partner, and know how to deliver high-impact content in fast-paced settings, this role is for you.

You’ll work closely with the Co-Founder / Communications Partner, sometimes driving projects independently, often building side-by-side. You’ll own key channels like social and email, contribute to editorial content development, support cross-platform storytelling, and help bring order and momentum to a fast, lean team.

We’re looking for someone precise, creative, low ego, and deeply motivated by substance and impact. Someone who can operate at a high level, manage the details, and learn fast. We’re open to a range of experience levels. Title, scope, and compensation will flex based on what you bring to the table.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive our social media voice and presence: develop strategy, write posts, publish across platforms, adapt based on feedback and growth

  • Lead or co-lead content development: newsletters, blog posts, researcher profiles, editorial features, event programming, and creative campaigns

  • Support podcast production: scheduling, content development, distribution, and highlight content

  • Support comms team operations: stand up, maintain, and refine systems that keep the department running smoothly (organizing files, managing email lists, tracking deliverables, and keeping tools and calendars up to date)

  • Contribute to PR workflows: drafting materials, coordinating timelines, media briefs, and working with press or agencies as needed

  • Assist with event production: promotion, logistics, asset creation, and day-of support for live and virtual events

  • Collaborate on campaign planning, editorial calendars, and content strategy

Who You Are

  • An execution-focused collaborator with excellent editorial instincts and strong output

  • A sharp writer and editor with range across formats and the ability to make complex topics accessible

  • Experienced with social media operations: tone, timing, engagement, and voice alignment

  • Familiar with email platforms and the technical basics of campaign execution

  • Organized and unphased by moving pieces: you keep timelines clean, recalibrate seamlessly, and work calmly under pressure

  • Self-directed, curious, and energized by both structure and chaos

  • More motivated by purpose, substance, and getting the work right than visibility or credit

  • Ready to step into ownership on some projects and assist in execution on others; excellent at shifting between high-level strategy and detail-level execution

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in comms, editorial, content, and/or marketing, ideally with exposure to fast-moving teams or early-stage environments

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to research-driven or technical organizations

  • Startup and/or journalism experience

  • Experience supporting or producing podcasts

  • Comfort with PR workflows, press cycles, and media coordination

  • Visual or brand sensibility, and light design skills
