Senior Full Stack Engineer, Enterprise, Feature Management

Remote - US

About the Job:

The Enterprise team builds LaunchDarkly for the customers who push it hardest. Global banks, national health systems, and Fortune 100 manufacturers run us across thousands of engineers and tens of thousands of flags, inside audit and change control processes most software never meets.

That scale breaks things that work fine everywhere else. A permissions model designed for a hundred users can be the reason a rollout to twenty thousand stalls. Volume creates a different class of problem, where a flag payload that costs nothing to deliver once gets expensive across a large service fleet. Your work is to find where a current design stops holding and build what replaces it. You will own that end to end, in Go on the backend and TypeScript and React on the frontend.

The problems fall into a few areas:

  • Governance and access control. Roles, permissions, approvals, and audit trails that satisfy a regulator.
  • Scale and performance. Finding the limit before the customer does, then changing the design rather than tuning around it.
  • Programmatic control. Our public API, Terraform provider, and configuration surfaces, so a platform team can run LaunchDarkly as infrastructure.
  • Resilience under real constraints. Data residency, regional isolation, and sane behavior when a dependency is degraded.

Enterprise runs closer to its own business than most product teams. Roughly half the roadmap traces back to requests from named customers, so you will often know who is waiting on your work and what it unblocks for them. You will speak with those customers directly. The other half is larger forward-looking work, where the brief is a capability our biggest customers will need rather than one they have already asked for.

Responsibilities:

  • Own features end to end: problem framing with your PM and designer, technical design, implementation across backend and frontend, rollout, and the operational life of the thing after it ships.
  • Design for enterprise constraints from the start. Permissions and access control, approval and audit requirements, data residency and regional isolation, and the behavior of the system when a region or dependency is degraded.
  • Find and fix scalability and performance limits before customers do. Identify where a current design stops holding at the top end of our customer base, quantify it, and lead the work to change it.
  • Make LaunchDarkly manageable at fleet scale. Extend our public API, Terraform provider, and configuration surfaces so a platform team can operate LaunchDarkly as infrastructure rather than click through it.
  • Work directly with customers. Join escalations and discovery calls, read the support and account signal, and turn a specific customer's problem into something that serves the whole segment rather than a one-off.
  • Raise operability of what the team owns. Observability, runbooks, and participation in the on-call rotation, plus the follow-through after an incident.
  • Drive alignment beyond your own team. Enterprise depends on and is depended on by several other teams, so surfacing a misalignment early and getting the right people in a room is a real part of the job at this level.
  • Mentor and review. Give substantive review on specifications and pull requests, including for engineers on neighboring teams, and help newer engineers get faster.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of features you drove from design through production.
  • Genuine full stack ability. Strong in a statically typed backend language and comfortable owning frontend work rather than handing it off. Our stack is Go on the backend and TypeScript and React on the frontend.
  • Experience building for enterprise customers. Multi-tenancy, roles and permissions, SSO and identity, audit logging, approval workflows, or compliance requirements in a production product.
  • Demonstrated work on scale and performance problems: finding a bottleneck, measuring it, and changing the design rather than tuning around it.
  • API design judgment. You have built interfaces other engineers depend on and have dealt with the consequences of getting one wrong.
  • Comfort talking to customers. You can sit in a call with a large customer's platform team, understand what they actually need underneath what they asked for, and come back with something more general than the request.
  • A collaborator across time zones. Some of your teammates and stakeholders are in EMEA, and you are willing to flex occasionally to work with them properly.
  • Clear writing. Design documents and written decisions are how this team stays aligned across regions.

About LaunchDarkly:

Modern software delivery was supposed to be the foundation for a thriving digital business but reality has proven otherwise. Slow, inefficient development cycles, costly outages, and fragmented customer experiences are preventing developers from building their best software. The LaunchDarkly platform helps developers innovate on new features faster while protecting them with a safety valve to instantly rewind when things go wrong. Developers can target product experiences to any customer segment and maximize the business impact of every feature. And by gradually rolling out new application components, they escape nightmare "big-bang" technology migrations.

The LaunchDarkly platform was built to guide engineers to the next frontier of DevOps by:

  • Improving the velocity and stability of software releases, without the fear of end customer outages
  • Delivering targeted experiences by easily personalizing features to customer cohorts
  • Maximizing the business impact of every feature through the ability to experiment and optimize
  • Coordinating the release and optimization of software to provide consistent experiences across mobile platforms and device types
  • Improving the effectiveness and productivity of engineering teams, by providing insights into engineering cadence and stability

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
