Head of Special Projects / Chief of Staff

Layer Health was founded in 2023 by leading machine learning researchers from MIT and Harvard Medical School. We are building an AI layer that can accurately and scalably synthesize information from medical records, with the mission to reduce friction everywhere in healthcare. Our LLM-powered platform is solving chart review once and for all, across use cases. For health systems, our first product dramatically accelerates clinical registry abstraction in areas ranging from surgery and cardiology, to oncology. Our long term vision is for our AI layer to safely transform patient care and minimize unnecessary heartbreak. Layer Health’s diverse founding team brings expertise across machine learning, UI/UX, large language models, and medicine.

We’re currently hiring a Head of Special Projects / Chief of Staff to help define and lead a broad range of strategic initiatives across the organization including evaluating new market opportunities, product use cases and strategic partnerships within both the health system and life sciences areas.

You can expect to:

• Work closely with the CEO and Chief Business Officer to support new business growth strategy & execution
• Regularly gather competitive intel/insights on the market
• Provide support and oversight for special projects and strategic initiatives from inception to conclusion - engaging with the broader Commercial and Product teams
• Engage with external strategic partners (e.g., potential channel partners, co-development partners) to define, negotiate and implement durable and impactful partnerships
• Plan, coordinate and lead high priority meetings, events, workshops, etc.
• Work with the commercial team to organize and plan strategic business initiatives from ideation to implementation
• Support account development and strategic client partnerships as needed

We look for:

• 3-5 years of experience, ideally with half or more of your experience coming from a consulting firm (McKinsey, BCG, etc), in a client-facing role
• Prior experience either directly working for an early stage health tech company, or supporting a health tech company via consultancy
• A solid grasp of the healthcare industry / competitive landscape; a clear understanding of use cases, industry challenges, and competitive landscape across one or more of these areas (in this order of priority): Health systems, healthcare IT companies, data providers / aggregators, and life sciences, pharmaceutical, medical device, and health systems
• A deep analytical mindset; someone who seeks through through data and is able to draw insightful conclusions and present findings to an internal or external audience with poise and conviction
• Previous experience supporting an ML-driven software product within the health tech space is a big plus

Expected compensation range for this role is $180,000 - $220,000 / year, in addition to stock options. Compensation is dependent on experience, overall fit to our role, and candidate location. Expected compensation ranges for this role may change over time. If your compensation requirement is greater than our posted salary ranges, please still consider applying to our role.
