
Engineering Manager, Data Platform

The Role
As a Manager of the Data Platform, you will lead a team of talented data engineers & business intelligence engineers in building and maintaining our data platform, which includes real-time microservices & our complex data warehouse. In both cases, our stakeholders are both internal and external and require high quality & robustness due to their business critical impact.
You will be responsible for defining the technical roadmap and translating it into sprint by sprint bases. You should advocate for ensuring system reliability and security, and fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and people leadership to deliver a secure and dependable experience for our users. You will work closely with product, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to translate business needs into scalable and resilient platform solutions.
Meet the Team
There are two subgroups to be managed:
- A Data Platform Services group, that manages terraform infrastructure for data, and builds microservices that are used in production. Tech stack includes: Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Terraform, Dataflow, Cloud Healthcare API.
- A Data Platform Warehouse group, that manages classic ETL pipelines from many sources like mongo and salesforce, and powers our internal dashboards as well as exports data to our customers on a daily basis. Tech Stack includes: Cloud Composer (Airflow), Cloud BigQuery, Looker.
- Lead, mentor, and coach a team of Data Engineering & Business Intelligence engineers, providing guidance on career growth and technical best practices.
- Drive the technical vision and strategy for the data platform, including architecture, tool selection, and process optimization.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, fault-tolerant, and secure cloud data infrastructure.
- Ensure the team upholds high-quality standards by participating in code reviews, defining release processes, and monitoring system performance.
- Collaborate with engineering managers and senior leaders to align team goals with company objectives.
- Manage a roadmap, balance technical debt with new feature development, and report on team progress and impact.
- Be an active member of the on-call rotation to support League’s infrastructure and ensure system availability and integrity.
About You:
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in a management or technical leadership role, leading engineering or data engineering roles
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in data platform or data engineering
- Proven expertise in managing and mentoring a team of technical professionals
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience in cloud providers (preferably GCP) and Data pipelines (airflow)
- Experience with CI/CD and automation in critical production environments
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A passion for fostering a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Experience in healthcare datasets like EMR and Claims and interoperability standards like FHIR.

- Ensure access management is performed in compliance with the employee's role and responsibilities
- Responsibility and accountability for executing League's policies and procedures within the department/ team

This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for base salaries for the position across all Canadian locations. The salary range is intentional to account for the performance and career progressions a Leaguer will experience in the role throughout their time at League. Where in the band you may land is determined by job-related skills/experience. $135,100 - $202,000 CAD
