Staff Product Designer: AI-Enhanced Writing Tools

Germany - Remote · Netherlands

About QuillBot

QuillBot is an AI-powered writing platform on a mission to reimagine writing. QuillBot provides over 35 million monthly active students, professionals, and educators with free online writing and research tools to help them become more effective, productive, and confident. QuillBot was founded on the idea that learning how to write and communicate well is empowering and should be a capability available to anyone. QuillBot already has an array of productivity-enhancing tools, and we wish to extend that suite to include an editor that helps any writer have the assistance that professional writers enjoy.

Role Overview

We are looking for a seasoned designer who cares as much about the craft of writing as they do design and who is looking to marry those two passions and join a team in creating a top-tier AI-augmented writing tool. As the lead designer for our new editor, you will play a key role in shaping how the editor works, its look and feel, and its core capabilities. You will be responsible for leading complex design initiatives, conducting UX research, and delivering refined, nuanced designs that enhance the writing experience for our users.

Responsibilities

  • You will lead the design of a complex writing tool from ideation to execution, ensuring that every detail is considered and every user interaction is refined.
  • You demonstrate mastery in design, with an exceptional eye for detail and nuance in the UI.
  • You ensure that our products not only function well but also delight users.
  • You partner with UX research to inform design decisions. Advocate for the user at every stage of the design process.
  • You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and writers, to create cohesive and innovative design solutions.
  • You will push the boundaries of what writing tools can be. Experiment with new ideas and approaches that enhance the writing process.
  • You provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the design team.

Ideal Candidate

  • Professional training and degree in UX or Product Design
  • 8+ years of experience in a product design role, with at least four years as a lead designer
  • Has a passion for writing
  • Is a skilled prototyper
  • Is skilled in designing tools for the web / desktop as well as mobile
  • Is a thoughtful and passionate collaborator
  • Front-end development experience is a strong plus
  • Has a deep fascination for how technology intersects with creativity and empowers people rather than supplants them
  • Has a strong command of the English language, both written and spoken
  • Bonus: has fluency in either German or Dutch
