About the Team:
Ledger operates at the intersection of finance, insurance, and technology. We are tasked with executing the go-to-market strategy for a new asset class: casualty insurance-linked securities. Ledger provides a specialized reinsurance brokerage service that enables re/insurance companies to purchase capital-efficient casualty ILS solutions.
About the role:
In this role, you will collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders, including re/insurance companies, actuaries, regulators, and Ledger’s broker-dealer, to design and implement innovative capital solutions and will report directly to the Chief Executive, Reinsurance.
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Reinsurance Actuary to lead and innovate collateralized casualty treaty reinsurance pricing. This critical role involves evaluating and pricing transactions, documenting pricing assumptions, mentoring actuarial talent, and contributing to the development of cutting-edge pricing solutions. You will play a key role in managing pricing parameters, supporting new product development, and participating in the development of a fast-growing Casualty ILS market.
This position combines leadership, technical expertise, and a strong focus on collaboration to enhance Ledger’s profitability and success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Pricing Leadership:
- Evaluate and price collateralized casualty treaty reinsurance and retrocession deals.
- Document pricing assumptions and maintain consistency and transparency in pricing strategies.
- Assist in developing innovative pricing solutions for new and existing products.
- Update and refine pricing parameters, including loss trends, development factors, rate changes, and exposure curves.
- Team Leadership:
- Mentor and develop actuaries, including conducting 1:1 meetings, assessing performance, and setting high-performance expectations.
- Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
- Technical Development:
- Lead efforts to maintain and enhance pricing tools and methodologies, leveraging advanced analytics and technology.
- Utilize advanced Microsoft Excel skills (including VBA, macros, and formula writing) to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
- Reinsurance Expertise:
- Lead pricing for Casualty treaty reinsurance lines. Heavily engage with re/insurance clients and casualty ILS investors to provide technical expertise and foster strategic relationships.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
- 15+ years of actuarial experience, including at least 10 years in reinsurance pricing.
- ACAS (Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society).
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including VBA programming, macros, and creating complex formulas.
- Proven experience leading actuarial teams.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage concurrent projects.
- Exceptional professional communication skills, with a track record of successful interaction with senior executives of re/insurers and the ability to present new concepts to Casualty ILS investors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- FCAS (Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society).
- Experience working within the actuarial team of a reinsurance broker.
- Experience with collateralized and/or MGA-focused placements.
- Intermediate programming skills in Python, R, or SQL.
