Legend Biotech is seeking LOA Specialist as part of the Human Resources Operations team based in Somerset, NJ.
Role Overview
The Leave of Absence Specialist is a key member of the HR Operations team, responsible for the effective administration and continuous improvement of the company’s leave and accommodation programs. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (including FMLA, PFML, ADAAA, PWFA, and others), while delivering exceptional support to employees throughout their leave journey. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, empathetic, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Leave of Absence Administration
- Manage all aspects of employee leave cases, including FMLA, ADA, personal & other statutory leaves.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
- Provide guidance to managers and employees on leave policies and procedures.
- Coordinate return-to-work processes, including fit-for-duty evaluations.
- Employee Support & Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding leave and accommodation inquiries.
- Deliver clear, compassionate, and timely communication throughout the leave process.
- Maintain confidentiality and provide personalized support to ensure positive employee experience.
- Vendor & Third-Party Oversight
- Liaise with external LOA vendors and third-party administrators to ensure service quality and compliance.
- Ensure issue resolution and escalate concerns as needed.
- ADA Accommodation Coordination
- Lead the interactive process for ADA accommodations, ensuring compliance with regulations and facilitating reasonable adjustments.
- Workers' Compensation Support
- Administer workers’ compensation claims, including incident reporting and return-to-work coordination.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and internal procedures.

- Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all leave and accommodation cases.
- Generate reports to support payroll, compliance audits, and strategic planning.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with payroll to ensure accurate benefits deductions and reporting in a timely manner.
- Support additional HR initiatives and projects as needed.

- Decides when to request additional documentation or clarification to support leave requests.
- Resolves complex or escalated leave cases within policy guidelines.
- Prioritizes tasks to ensure timely and compliant leave administration.
- Prioritizes workload to meet critical deadlines and ensure timely leave administration.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing LOA, accommodations, and workers’ compensation programs.
- Strong knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and other applicable federal and state leave laws.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Proven problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to case management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Workday is a plus.

The anticipated base pay range is:
$70,671 - $92,757 USD
