LG Magna e-Powertrain USA, Inc. is a newly established US subsidiary headquartered in South Korea, formed through a joint venture by LG Electronics Vehicle Solution and Magna International, created to bring new synergies based on LG’s electric vehicle component capabilities and Magna’s experience in the traditional automotive industry. Overall Responsibilities:

LG Magna e-Powertrain USA, Inc. is expanding its team in Troy, MI, and is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Power Electronics Engineer to join our dynamic group focused on electric vehicle powertrain development. In close collaboration with customers, you will contribute significantly to deploying advanced technologies and deliverables from our Headquarters Engineering Center, to drive robust solutions.

Major Tasks Listed Below:

  • Lead customer technical communication to ensure correct and meaningful customer requirements are understood by internal colleagues.
    • Attend Regular PDT (Production Development Team) meetings and urgent meetings to understand the issues that arise during the development and mass production phases of the assigned product.
    • Provide clear recommendations to the HQ development team by collaborating with Regional Directors and Lead Engineers to ensure customer requirements, issues, and circumstances are well understood through virtual/onsite meetings and “Go and See” customer visits.
    • Create and maintain engineering specifications, DFMEAs, DVP&Rs throughout the development phase of the product.
    • Support APQP, DFM/DFA, and IATF 16949 compliance, including defining and verifying critical characteristics and the feasibility of the design
  • Provide on-site engineering support and service at customer locations
    • Carry out on-site service at the customer location for engineering tasks like software reflash, sample delivery, sample correction, etc.
  • Perform root cause analysis of warranty products
    • Analyze the root cause of warranty product concerns and report to the customer and the Internal relevant team.
    • Execute the swap test by soldering and desoldering defective components of the circuit board to verify the analysis result.
    • Conduct a physical breakdown of the warranty products for the analysis and re-assembly of the warranty products.
    • Communicate with lead engineers and/or HQ engineers for root cause analysis and problem solving for warranty part analysis with global overseas colleagues in other time zones as required.
  • Conduct technical risk reporting based on customer communication
    • Utilize and apply the knowledge acquired by internal independent research and work experience to assist problem solving and give recommendations to the relevant teams
    • Provide technical communication with HQ development teams, as well as the global cross functional team to report technical risks and issues
  • Communicate technical information and data for RFQ’s, RFP’s and quoting stages of projects
    • Support and collaborate with HQ for the technical review materials and question/answer based on a full understanding of the customer requirements of the assigned product
    • Act as the lead technical window person in communicating with the customer and HQ for assigned products.
    • Escalate summaries of deliverables and background on advanced technical requests from customers to HQ and local leadership, while communicating with customers and related teams to ensure accurate guidance.
  • Perform technical research and benchmarking for a new business opportunity
    • Develop internal/external proposals for new technology based on technical study, benchmarking, and research of assigned products.
    • Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering organization to be shared regionally and with HQ engineering teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronic engineering is required.
  • A minimum 3-year experience of development engineering in the automotive industry
  • Skill in analysis of the semiconductors like MOSFET, diode, gate drive, OP-amp, and digital circuits
  • Skill to read and understand electrical schematics, control system configurations, and standardized work instructions
  • Proficient skills in using equipment for circuit analysis, such as an oscilloscope, function generator, and power supply
  • Skill to select electrical and electronic circuits (resistors, capacitors, inductors, transformers) and design and understand analog and digital circuits
  • Ability to adapt to flexible work schedules for communication with stakeholders in different time zones (ex, HQ in Korea)
  • Proficient skills to use MS Project, MS Office, and MS Teams
  • A passion for discovery and learning, with a curiosity that drives you to look beyond obvious obstacles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OEM or Tier 1 Automotive experience
  • Experience in power electronics engineering, including converter and inverter technologies
  • Bilingual in English and Korean
