Role Summary

Support the site-level NPI execution team for battery cell development and mass production transfer projects led by Headquarters NPI/R&D in South Korea. In this role, you will assist the end-to-end on-site execution from pilot line validation to mass production stabilization. Under the NPI Engineer's guidance, you will collect cell assembly process data, support customer PPAP preparation, help stabilize initial production yield, and contribute to process parameter validation.

Responsibilities

  • New Cell Line Transfer & Ramp-Up Support: Assist with pilot runs and DV/PD/PV sample builds in accordance with HQ R&D/NPI schedules.
  • Assembly Process Parameter Validation: Help validate process recipes and parameter settings (welding conditions, electrolyte amount, pressing force, etc.) transferred from HQ.
  • Data Collection & Variance Analysis: Assist in collecting assembly process data and documenting variances across equipment/lines; provide supporting feedback to HQ R&D as directed.
  • Project Gate Review Support: Support the preparation of line uptime, cell yield, and bottleneck analysis reports required for NPI Gate Reviews.
  • PPAP Data Collection & Package Support: Assist with collecting and submitting assembly process capability data (Cpk/Ppk), Gauge R&R, and MSA data as requested by HQ Quality/Customer Support teams.
  • Site Quality Documentation Alignment: Help localize and update site-specific PFMEAs, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and inspection standards based on HQ standard documents (DFMEA/PFMEA, Control Plan).
  • Customer On-Site Audit Support: Support line tours and demonstrations of key assembly/inspection processes during customer audits; assist with implementing corrective actions for audit findings.
  • Initial Yield & Cpk Support: Assist in monitoring ramp-up yield trends, supporting Pareto analysis on defect types, and helping control process variation to achieve target capability for key assembly processes.
  • Issue Documentation: Support the preparation of 8D reports for NPI-stage defects (e.g., tab welding failures, dimensional/visual defects, sealing/leakage issues); assist in root cause investigations using cross-sectional analysis, with findings reported to the NPI Engineer.
  • Process Parameter Assistance: Support optimization of laser welding parameters, electrolyte injection/soaking time, and humidity/pressure controls to reduce defect rates.
  • Knowledge Transfer Assistance: Help transfer validated assembly process know-how, safety guidelines, and operating precautions to the site manufacturing and quality teams.
  • 4M Change Tracking: Assist in documenting and managing approvals for 4M (Man, Machine, Material, Method) changes occurring during the NPI phase.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, Electrical, or related fields).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in NPI, Process Engineering, or Quality Engineering in manufacturing.
  • Technical Competencies including:
    • Experience working within PPAP documentation frameworks (PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, Cpk/Ppk).
    • Familiarity with shop-floor problem-solving methodologies such as 8D Report or 5-Why.
    • Working knowledge of statistical data analysis tools (Minitab, SPC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Battery Cell Assembly Experience.
  • Language & Communication: Business English proficiency (both verbal and written) for cross-functional collaboration with HQ and global clients.
  • Familiarity with quality systems such as Six Sigma, DOE, and statistical tools.
  • Project & Quality System Experience including HQ-to-plant tech transfer projects for new battery cell products and supporting customer PPAP submission and audit response under IATF 16949 quality standards.
