Controller

The Controller will serve as a key leader within the finance department, responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting operations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with internal controls, and efficient accounting processes. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of GAAP, excellent leadership skills, and a drive for continuous improvement.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounting Leadership
- Lead and manage the accounting team, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger staff.
- Establish clear goals, performance metrics, and career development plans for team members.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.
Financial Reporting
- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
- Provide insightful analysis of financial performance and variances.
Process & Controls Management
- Design, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure integrity of financial records.
- Review and refine accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Oversee compliance with tax filings, audits, and other regulatory requirements.
Strategic Financial Support
- Collaborate with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Support strategic initiatives through financial modeling, analysis, and scenario planning.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support operational decision-making.
System Oversight
- Partner with IT or system vendors to ensure optimization of accounting systems and ERP tools.
- Lead or support system upgrades, integrations, or implementations relevant to accounting and finance functions.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership experience a plus.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA or CMA certification.
- Experience with an industrial equipment sales/service business or similar industry.
- Familiarity with ERP system implementation.
- Proven ability to drive process improvements and implement best practices.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
