Manager, FP&A & Accounting
At Lightbridge, we’re pioneering advanced nuclear fuel technology that’s designed to make reactors safer, more efficient, and more responsive to global energy needs. Our mission is bold and we’re looking for equally bold thinkers to help us bring it to life. If you thrive at the intersection of engineering and regulatory strategy, this is your opportunity to help shape the future of clean energy.
Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on, analytical Manager of FP&A & Accounting to play a key role in both the financial operations and strategic planning of the company. This position combines traditional accounting responsibilities, including month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls, with forward-looking financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and management reporting.
The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation but enjoys looking beyond historical results to understand what is driving the business, where performance is headed, and what actions management should take next.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who wants broad exposure across the organization and the ability to influence both day-to-day financial operations and longer-term business decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate the company's annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes, partnering with department leaders to develop realistic financial and operational plans.
- Maintain and enhance financial models for revenue, headcount, operating expenses, cash flow, and other key business drivers.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly budget-to-actual and forecast-to-actual analyses, identify key variances, trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop management reporting packages, dashboards, and KPIs that provide clear visibility into company performance.
- Prepare financial scenarios and sensitivity analyses to support strategic decisions, investments, hiring plans, and resource allocation.
- Support development of the company's short- and long-term financial plans.
- Continuously improve forecasting methodologies, reporting processes, and financial visibility across the organization.
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Review and/or prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other general ledger activity.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and financial statements.
- Support monthly financial reporting for management, including analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts for unusual variances.
- Maintain appropriate accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
- Support accounts payable, payroll accounting, external reporting and other accounting functions as needed.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax providers, and other professional service partners.
- Assist with annual audit, tax, and other compliance-related activities.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting and reporting processes.
- Serve as a finance partner to department leaders, helping them understand budgets, forecasts, financial results, and business tradeoffs.
- Translate complex financial information into clear recommendations for non-financial stakeholders.
- Provide financial analysis for strategic initiatives, new programs, capital investments, pricing decisions, and other business opportunities.
- Help establish financial discipline and accountability as the organization grows.
- Build scalable finance processes, reporting tools, and controls to support continued company growth.
- Support the CFO and senior leadership team with ad hoc analysis and strategic projects.
- Assist in evaluating and implementing finance systems and process improvements.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting, finance, or FP&A experience, ideally with meaningful exposure to both accounting and financial planning.
- Strong understanding of financial statements and the relationships among the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
- Experience with month-end close, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modeling.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail while maintaining a broader understanding of business objectives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or other relevant professional credential.
- Experience in a high-growth or rapidly changing organization.
- Experience implementing or improving budgeting, forecasting, ERP, or financial reporting systems.
- Experience with BI and data visualization tools.
- Experience improving and automating finance processes, controls, and management reporting.
- Ability to work independently, identify issues requiring escalation, and collaborate effectively across the organization.
- Interest in advanced nuclear energy and supporting Lightbridge Corporation’s growth and commercialization objectives.
