Cyber Analyst / Network Engineer

Silver Spring, MD

LightFeather is seeking a Cybersecurity Analyst / Network Engineer to join our team supporting a federal client. This role requires a versatile technical professional with expertise in both advanced network engineering and comprehensive cybersecurity. You will be responsible for ensuring the performance, reliability, and security of complex IT environments while safeguarding critical systems and data.

Key Responsibilities

Network Engineering & Infrastructure Support

  • Manage and maintain network components, including DNS, firewalls, switches, and servers.
  • Configure, monitor, and optimize Windows Server environments, NAS devices, and cloud storage solutions.
  • Oversee backup operations to ensure availability and recovery readiness, including AWS GovCloud integrations.
  • Monitor server and database health, troubleshoot issues, and implement mitigation plans.
  • Manage FTP, SFTP, HTTP services, and ensure secure configurations.
  • Coordinate with third-party service providers for network and firewall operations.

Cybersecurity Operations

  • Perform continuous monitoring of systems to maintain compliance with federal cybersecurity standards (e.g., FISMA).
  • Conduct security risk assessments and compliance evaluations for infrastructure and applications.
  • Manage and enforce encryption standards across databases and systems.
  • Support incident response activities, including root cause analysis and remediation planning.
  • Liaise with partners on security posture reviews and implement remediation plans.
  • Recommend and implement strategies to improve cyber resilience and disaster recovery.

Continuity of Operations & Recovery

  • Support business continuity by maintaining and testing recovery procedures for mission-critical systems.
  • Ensure the ability to recover systems within targeted timeframes following outages or incidents.
  • Be available for on-site assessment in Silver Spring, MD, within required timeframes during critical outages.

Collaboration & Technical Support

  • Support helpdesk escalations for network, hardware, and software issues.
  • Work with developers, database administrators, and external partners to ensure system interoperability and security.
  • Assist in the integration of authentication services and secure API connections.
  • Maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams, system configurations, and security procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • 5+ years of combined experience in network engineering and cybersecurity.
  • Proven experience with DNS, firewall, and switch management.
  • Strong background in Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and network storage solutions.
  • Proficiency with security risk assessments, compliance frameworks, and incident response.
  • Familiarity with backup systems, including AWS cloud-based solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to urgent issues quickly.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of federal IT security standards and regulations.
  • Experience with SQL Server environments, encryption technologies, and VPN configuration.
  • Familiarity with tools such as SolarWinds, Veeam, and other network/security monitoring platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with API integration and secure authentication methods.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Security+, Network+, CISSP, CCNA, CEH).
