The Role:

Lila Sciences is seeking an Optimization and Scheduling Engineer (Engineer II) to join our software platform team, focusing on a range of optimization challenges including scheduling. This role is part of our software team that builds internal tools that support lab operations. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in optimization and a comprehensive understanding of developing and implementing advanced solutions. Our team emphasizes shared responsibility and strong collaboration with stakeholders to drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with engineers, production managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and define optimization strategies.
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust optimization models for scheduling and other applications.
  • Write code to develop and test optimization algorithms and solutions.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to integrate optimization models into production systems.
  • Enhance and maintain optimization processes to streamline operations and improve resource utilization.
  • Ensure best practices in model development and implementation, including version control, model validation, testing, documentation, and monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to scheduling models and solutions reported by users.
  • Support and train internal users on optimization tools and methodologies.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to team members, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in optimization and scheduling.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in optimization, with a specific focus on job shop scheduling challenges.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in optimization tools and programming languages such as CPLEX, Gurobi, Python, R, or MATLAB. Google OR-Tools. Familiarity with scheduling software and principles is a plus. 
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and develop creative, effective solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and deliver results within strict deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in software for scientific domains such as biology, chemistry, or materials.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in manufacturing, logistics, or production environments
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in optimization, operations research, or advanced scheduling tools are a plus.
