Your Impact at Lila

Lila Sciences is seeking a thoughtful and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our physical sciences team, with a focus on materials characterization. This is a hands-on, lab-based opportunity for pre-doctoral candidates to support experimental workflows and data processing for materials discovery. This role provides a unique opportunity to engage in innovative research and development activities across multiple disciplines, hone a diversity of skills, and help realize a new paradigm in scientific discovery.

What You'll Be Building

  • Execute and monitor materials characterization workflows across diverse chemistries and functionalities
  • Assist in analysis of materials characterization data under supervision.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including experimental and machine learning scientists, to support characterization efforts for scientific objectives.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in quality check and preventative maintenance of the instruments.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or related field
  • Prior experience in working in a laboratory environment.
  • Hands-on work with common characterization tools such as profilometer, XRD, SEM, and XRF
  • Attention to detail in experimental execution and data interpretation
  • Effective, respectful written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort working in interdisciplinary, fast-paced environments

Bonus Points For

  • Familiarity with high throughput scientific platforms
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automating data analysis
  • Experience with CAD drawing and prototyping
