Intern, Cell Biology
Your Impact at Lila
Project Scope
- At the end of the project, our intern would return with exception Cell Culture knowledge and we would get a lot of support with cell culture maintenance.
- The candidate will learn Transfection processes and support cell team with Assay setups.
- With 1 week of training, the intern should be able to contribute to cell culture maintenance starting in their second week of work.
What You'll Be Building
- Cell Culture Support: Perform routine maintenance of adherent and suspension mammalian cell lines, including media preparation, passaging, and monitoring confluence under team guidance.
- Transfection & Protocols: Assist the team in executing DNA/RNA transfection processes to modify or engineer cell lines.
- Assay Setup: Support the technical setup of biological assays, including precise plate seeding and reagent preparation.
- Lab Stewardship: Follow established SOPs to maintain a sterile BSL2 environment and ensure the health of all cell lines.
- Data Documentation: Maintain precise, digital records of cell lineage and experimental parameters.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Educational Background: Currently pursuing a degree (BS/MS) in Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or a related Life Science field.
- Technical Fundamentals: Proficiency in "lab math" (calculating dilutions and concentrations) and hands-on experience with pipetting from coursework or previous lab modules.
- Precision & Execution: High level of attention to detail with the ability to follow complex, step-by-step instructions and maintain organized digital records.
- Professional Reliability: Ability to commit to a consistent daily schedule to ensure time-sensitive cell culture maintenance and platform readiness.
Bonus Points For
- Aseptic Technique: Previous exposure to sterile techniques required to maintain healthy, contamination-free cell cultures.
- Cell Biology Basics: Familiarity with cell counting (manual or automated), viability staining, and cryopreservation (freezing/thawing cell stocks).
- Molecular Biology: Conceptual understanding of transfection methods and experience or interest in setting up biological assays.
- Lab Documentation: Experience maintaining precise records in a digital format or an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN).
