Your Impact at Lila

As an EHS Specialist for our laboratory environments, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and compliant scientific workspace at Lila Sciences. Your expertise will be essential in developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive environmental health and safety programs, thereby enabling groundbreaking scientific work in a secure and compliant setting. This is an individual contributor role, and you will be onsite at our Cambridge, MA location.

What You'll Be Building

 

  • Develop and maintain EHS programs and policies to comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety evaluations, risk assessments, and facility reviews to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage and oversee biosafety, chemical safety, and hazardous waste disposal processes within lab environments.
  • Deliver EHS training and onboarding for new staff and contractors, focusing on safety practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate with lab teams to ensure compliance with biosafety, chemical hygiene, and waste disposal regulations.
  • Lead incident investigations and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for regulatory agencies and manage compliance documentation and reporting.

Note: While we strive to continuously improve our EHS program, we acknowledge that formal auditing carries a level of rigor we are not yet fully structured to support. We use terms like “review,” “evaluation,” or “verification” to reflect the current nature of our processes.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • BA/BS degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of experience in an EHS role within laboratory, biotech, or similar scientific environments.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, including biosafety, chemical hygiene, and waste disposal standards.
  • Experience in conducting safety evaluations and risk assessments.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and training skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across various lab domains and disciplines (e.g., biosafety, chemistry, materials handling).

Bonus Points For

  • Grade 1 or Grade 2 Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Operator license, or the ability to obtain within six months of hire. (If location requires this license; remove if inapplicable.)
  • Certifications in OSHA, HazMat, or other relevant safety programs.
  • Prior experience with lab safety management tools and technologies.

Expected Base Salary Range

$88,000 - $126,000 USD
