UX Researcher IV
Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and versatile mixed-methods UX researcher (qualitative + quantitative) with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate demonstrates a rigorous approach to UX research methodologies, has experience developing solution concepts, and has shipped consumer products. You will collaborate with other UX researchers and interdisciplinary hardware and software teams to explore the boundaries of AR/VR product innovation and research science. Your expertise must not only contribute to knowledge but also drive measurable, positive impacts on product design and user experiences.
Key Hard Skills:
- Research and Methodology Skills:
- Expertise in designing and conducting user studies that integrate qualitative and quantitative approaches.
- Ability to select appropriate methods (e.g., interviews, field observations, surveys, usability tests) to address research questions.
- Skilled at synthesizing insights from user feedback and data analytics into cohesive findings that inform product design.
- Qualitative Research Methodology:
- Proficiency in conducting in-depth interviews, focus groups, and think-aloud usability sessions.
- Expertise in exploring user behaviors and needs using open-ended techniques and synthesizing themes.
- Valuable experience in planning and executing diary studies to understand real-world use cases for wearable devices.
- Survey Design & Quantitative UX Methods:
- Skilled in designing effective surveys and questionnaires, and analyzing results for trends.
- Familiarity with quantitative UX research techniques to measure user satisfaction, usage patterns, and performance metrics.
Key Soft Skills:
- Applied Research & Insight Generation:
- Proven experience conducting hands-on primary research in applied product development settings, beyond academic contexts.
- Expertise in translating study findings into actionable recommendations and frameworks (cognitive, perceptual, ergonomic) to guide product strategies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Demonstrated success working in cross-disciplinary teams, partnering with industrial design, UX design, hardware/software engineering, Research Product Managers, and Technical Program Managers.
- Ability to act as a bridge between user insights and technical implementation by integrating team member perspectives.
- Adaptability & Project Management:
- Strong organizational skills to manage research projects in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
- Agility to adjust research plans dynamically as device prototypes or AI algorithms evolve.
- Flexibility to handle practical constraints such as participant recruitment, study scheduling, and timely delivery of insights aligned with hardware deadlines.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Proficiency in experimental design and statistical analysis, including A/B tests and usability lab studies.
- Expertise in inferential statistics (t-tests, ANOVAs, regression modeling) and controlled variable testing to validate research findings rigorously.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of relevant experience in user experience, applied research, or product research and development.
- Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. with 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Extensive experience designing and leading complex mixed-methods user studies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degrees in human behavior-related fields such as Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, Communication, Information Science, Media Studies, Computer Science, or Economics.
- Experience shipping consumer hardware and wearable technologies.
- Background in early-stage R&D UXR research or work in AR/VR/AI domains.
- Advanced skills in multimodal qualitative data collection and analysis
Location: Redmond, WA (Onsite)
Role type: Contract 12 Month Position
