Role Overview: 

The Head of Production is responsible for all elements of the marketing production process at Liquid Death, including video, photography, and occasionally physical products. They are responsible for leading Death Machine in being a world-class in-house production studio. In this role, the Head of Production is responsible for delivering all projects on time, within budget, and of the highest quality. They manage a team of producers below them to coach and ensure all projects are accomplished with the same level of polish. Scrapiness, ingenuity, and precision are of the utmost importance. They value finding a great solution over throwing money at problems. They are expected to lead the department by example, finding creative solutions to difficult production situations. They manage relationships with external collaborators and vendors to get excellent work at the lowest costs. Additionally, they must work cross-functionally with other departments at Liquid Death–marketing, legal, finance–to ensure all work is well documented and executed in line with all constraints. Besides managing the production process, this role also functions as a creative partner to the creative team (and in particular to the VP Creative) to continue to develop the work as it’s shepherded through the production process. This role is located in Los Angeles, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Death Machine internal production team and process and own top responsibility for all projects.
  • Oversee all productions to ensure each project is delivered on time and within budget and of the utmost quality.
  • Orchestrate productions across various team members based on fit and timing.
  • Coach and advise team members on creative production solutions.
  • As necessary, step in to produce projects hand-on.
  • Bid, review, and negotiate all production estimates. Review and approve all production related invoices. 
  • Sync all work across marketing, finance, and legal teams along with complete and property documentation.
  • Maintain all Liquid Death owned production equipment.
  • Constantly evaluate new processes and collaborators to continually improve final output of projects.
  • Uphold and expand Liquid Death’s reputation with the production community.
  • Develop content production solutions, strategies and recommendations in partnership with Creative and Marketing leadership.
  • Take a hand-on approach to finding unconventional solutions however necessary.
  • Highly skilled and hands-on role requiring the ability to manage ambiguity on set. Responsibilities could involve loading gear, building props, running sound, operating cameras, digital imaging, and jumping into all areas of film, direction, and production as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in production at an ad agency, in-house marketing department, and production house. 
  • Line producer experience
  • Film production experience (low budget/high quality)

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Humble and collaborative; willing and able to tackle projects of any size or scope in collaboration with cross-functional internal and external partners.
  • First-hand experience of how to stay scrappy with small budgets.
  • Practical production knowledge, with first-hand knowledge of how to shoot, not just produce.
  • An almost annoying attention to detail.
  • High level of production business, finance and legal acumen
  • Fantastic time management skills.
  • Great negotiating abilities; able to get anyone to agree to anything.
  • A wide network of collaborators and production resources to draw from.
  • First and foremost, a creative at heart, like everyone at Liquid Death.

Physical Demands:

  • May be required to help move product or other necessary production items around to various locations.
  • Must attend in-person shoots (95% in LA, 5% domestic travel)
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends and more than 8 hours per day on shoot days

 

The typical salary range for this position is: $190,000 - $225,000

The actual salary offer will take into account multiple factors including skills, experience, education and location. Please note that the salary details listed in role postings reflect the base salary only, not total compensation, which includes equity and benefits.
