About the Role:

The Director of Regulatory Affairs leads the Regulatory Affairs team and its strategic initiatives within the fast-evolving food and dietary supplement industry. This role sits at the leadership level, collaborating with executive management to shape and execute a forward-thinking regulatory strategy that supports the company’s rapid growth, global expansion, and goal to innovate within a competitive and highly-regulated landscape.  

The Director will serve as the driving force behind regulatory compliance initiatives, thought leadership, and cross-functional collaboration. They will guide business-critical decisions while mentoring both senior and emerging talent across regulatory teams. With a significant focus on global regulatory trends, this individual will also contribute to expanding Liquid I.V.’s footprint internationally. The Director reports directly to the VP of QA/RA and plays a pivotal role in achieving Liquid I.V.’s long-term vision. 

Functions and duties of this role include, but not limited to:

  • Act as the chief architect of Liquid I.V.’s regulatory framework, policies, and long-term strategic goals, in alignment with business objectives and industry standards.
  • Anticipate, assess, and prepare for regulatory changes domestically and globally, ensuring the company remains ahead of emerging trends and requirements.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to evaluate product innovation plans and global expansion strategies, integrating regulatory considerations into the decision-making process.
  • Provide strategic insights to drive sustainable growth while safeguarding compliance in a rapidly scaling business.
  • Global Regulatory Partnership: Lead the regulatory compliance efforts for all ingredients, products, marketing claims, and certifications across domestic and partnering with international markets.
  • Ensure timely filing and approval of all regulatory documentation, including FDA 30-Day Notifications, and support expansions into new international markets.
  • Represent Liquid I.V.’s regulatory efforts internally within the Unilever Wellbeing Collective, and externally at global industry associations, conferences, and with government agencies.
  • Product & Brand Compliance:
  • Oversee and optimize the review process for product labels, supplement facts panels, marketing materials, and product claims.
  • Lead the development of innovative compliance solutions for competitive product claims, advertising strategies, and new product launches.
  • Manage complex regulatory challenges, turning them into actionable opportunities for the company.
  • Team Development & Leadership: Lead, mentor, and cultivate a high-performing Regulatory Affairs team with a strong emphasis on leadership development, technical expertise, and collaboration.
  • Provide strategic vision and direction ensuring the team’s alignment with company goals.
  • Build a dynamic, agile team culture that thrives on innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Development, Marketing, Supply Chain, and other internal teams to ensure alignment between regulatory requirements and business objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional task forces to address regulatory gaps or opportunities directly impacting product launches and strategic initiatives.
  • Champion a solutions-focused, collaborative approach to resolve regulatory hurdles and optimize speed-to-market.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain and enhance advanced regulatory technology platforms (e.g., Viva Reg One), streamlining processes and improving compliance efficiency.
  • Develop and analyze key regulatory performance metrics/KPIs to inform decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee external partnerships, legal counsel, and global consultants, ensuring compliance standards are upheld across all levels of the product lifecycle.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or applied science discipline (e.g., Food Science, Biology, Chemistry) is required.
  • Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in a related field is strongly preferred.
  • 10-15+ years of progressive regulatory experience within the food or dietary supplement industry.
  • Significant management experience with a proven track record of leading, mentoring, and scaling teams for a minimum of 8-10 years
  • Deep understanding of FDA regulations, FSMA (21 CFR Part 117), DSHEA, and GMP (21 CFR Part 111) requirements.
  • Experience with global regulatory frameworks and new market entry.
  • Proven ability to manage GMP product stability programs, including work with contract laboratories and manufacturers.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization ensuring collaboration, communication, and alignment across teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex legal and scientific concepts to non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mind with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven success in managing multiple high-stakes priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • A visionary approach to regulatory compliance, balancing creativity and practicality.
  • Dedicated to promoting health, wellness, and sustainability through strategic innovation and compliance.
  • Collaborative and solutions-focused with a passion for team and organizational growth.

The expected salary range for this position is $147,600 - 221,400 annually. The exact salary is determined by various factors including experience, skills, education, geographic location, internal company equity, and budget.
