Occupational Therapist - Complex Cases & Manual Handling

Liquid Personnel is recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist to join its client’s Complex Cases & Manual Handling Team in Birmingham. The role involves completing complex functional and manual handling assessments, recommending specialist equipment, and developing safe moving and handling plans in people’s homes. You will focus on risk management, detailed intervention planning, and supporting citizens with higher-level needs.

The contract is a 3‑month locum position with a hybrid working pattern, primarily home‑based with one required weekly visit to Sparkbrook, and the role requires an immediate start.

What will your responsibilities be?

  • Complete complex functional assessments in citizens’ homes across Birmingham.
  • Carry out manual handling assessments, including hoisting, slings, transfers, and safe‑moving plans.
  • Identify functional strengths, barriers, risks, and appropriate interventions.
  • Recommend and prescribe manual handling equipment and minor adaptations in line with service policies.
  • Develop personalised moving & handling plans for citizens, carers, and family members.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across health and social care to ensure consistent, safe support.
  • Provide defensible clinical reasoning and maintain clear, timely case notes.
  • Contribute to a strengths‑based, prevention‑focused approach to service delivery.

Working Expectation:

  • Hybrid role with a weekly visit to Sparkbrook.
  • Home visits across Birmingham throughout the week.
  • Base office location: Lifford House, Birmingham.

Qualifications & Experience:

To be successful in this role you must have, 

  • Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Minimum 1 year post‑qualifying experience (essential).
  • Strong experience and knowledge of manual handling (essential).
  • Experience working with complex cases in community or social care settings.
  • Confident completing home visits and working independently.
  • Ability to start immediately.
