Electrical Engineer – Product Lifecycle & Sustaining

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Sustaining Engineering at LiquidStack, the Electrical Engineer – Sustaining Engineering will be responsible for providing comprehensive technical and engineering support throughout the product lifecycle. From post-release to obsolescence, this role is integral to ensuring the continued performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of our products.

The Electrical Engineer will work collaboratively with R&D, Product Design, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Services teams to sustain and enhance product performance. This includes driving cost reduction initiatives, implementing value engineering strategies, managing component obsolescence, and resolving escalated technical issues as part of Level 3 (L3) support. The role will also address ongoing technical challenges, extend product life cycles, and ensure the long-term viability and optimization of our cooling solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain electrical designs for extra low voltage (<50V) and low voltage (<600V) systems.
  • Design, build, and test electrical control panels and sub-assemblies.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures, including alternative designs, vendors, and component sources.
  • Provide technical support to Global Services and Manufacturing teams.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on machinery, facility apparatus, and test rigs.
  • Lead the vendor selection process and ensure material qualifications meet company standards.
  • Optimize Bill of Materials (BOM) for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure all designs prioritize quality, safety, cost reduction, and serviceability.
  • Prepare electrical system specifications, technical drawings, and documentation to meet customer and industry standards.
  • Manage manufacturing processes in compliance with global engineering codes and standards, coordinating with contract manufacturers as needed.
  • Support R&D activities, including design, analysis, and development of software and hardware components.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) processes to maintain high design quality and safety standards.
  • Act in alignment with LiquidStack’s core values, Code of Business Conduct, and Ethical Behavior policies.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations as outlined in LiquidStack’s safety manual and Occupational Health and Safety standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical panel design within industries such as HVAC, PCB, electrical appliances, power systems, oil & gas, automotive, or other electromechanical products.
  • Proficiency in E-Plan, AutoCAD, and/or other electrical design tools.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical panel building, particularly in tight component placements and wiring.
  • Experience with P&ID and PLC systems is a plus.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Multicultural approach with the ability to work across different time zones and regions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
