Job Summary
The Journeyman Boilermaker is a skilled craft professional responsible for independently fabricating, installing, maintaining, and repairing boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and other heavy industrial components. This role requires strong technical expertise in welding, rigging, layout, blueprint reading, and safety. Journeymen are also expected to mentor apprentices and ensure work meets company and code standards.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and work independently from blueprints, isometrics, and technical specifications.
- Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair boilers, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, and structural components.
- Perform high‑precision cutting, beveling, fitting, and layout using advanced tools and fabrication methods.
- Weld using SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and other processes as qualified.
- Perform hydrotesting and integrity inspections on vessels and systems.
- Lead rigging operations, including setting up hoists, cranes, chokers, and lifting gear.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, alignment, or fabrication issues without supervision.
- Mentor apprentices and helpers; ensure crews follow correct procedures.
- Complete work according to ASME, NBIC, OSHA, and customer standards.
- Follow all company safety protocols including confined space, hot work, fall protection, and LOTO.
Other duties may be assigned as needed to support business operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Recognized Journeyman Boilermaker status (NCCER, union hall, or equivalent).
- 4–6+ years of industrial boilermaking experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in welding, rigging, fitting, and blueprint interpretation.
- Ability to lead small crews or direct apprentices.
- Strong understanding of pressure systems, vessel repair, and code requirements.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Ability to pass weld tests and job‑site pre-employment screenings.
Preferred:
- ASME or NBIC R‑stamp experience.
- Additional welding certifications (6G, TIG, pressure welding).
- Previous refinery, power plant, or large industrial turnaround/shutdown work.
- Rigging or crane signaling certifications.

Work Environment:
- Climbing up and down stairs and ladders to both get in and out of trenches and up to elevated platforms (scaffolding at significant heights)
- Work in tight/confined spaces, at heights, and in hot or cold environments
- Lifting necessary equipment and materials 1-50 pounds, 50% of the time monthly for required tasks
- Potential or Periodic amounts of time for the following: Walking on uneven terrain, with an average of two miles per day, and standing
