Position Summary

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for Loenbro's sustainability objectives and supports environmental compliance across industrial construction projects, fabrication shops, warehouses, yards, and related facilities. The role leads the collection, validation, analysis, and communication of environmental and sustainability data; and helps integrate practical environmental measures into project and facility operations. Working with EHS, Operations, Facilities, Fleet, Procurement, project teams, and customers. The position also maintains compliance records, performs field inspections, closes corrective actions, and reduces environmental risk.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sustainability Strategy Data and Reporting

  • Coordinate and validate sustainability data across projects and facilities, including energy, fuel, water, materials, waste, recycling, and greenhouse-gas emissions.
  • Maintain Scope 1 and Scope 2 inventories and relevant Scope 3 data, calculation methods, baselines, and performance metrics.
  • Prepare dashboards, client disclosures, project reports, and leadership updates addressing sustainability performance, risks, opportunities, and goals.

Environmental Compliance and Permitting

  • Support compliance with applicable air, waste, water, spill prevention, oil storage, chemical reporting, and permit requirements across Loenbro projects and facilities.
  • Coordinate permit reviews, registrations, reporting, regulated-equipment inventories, compliance deadlines, and related documentation.

Field Inspections and Corrective Actions

  • Conduct environmental inspections and audits of higher-risk project and facility operations.
  • Document findings, manage corrective actions, and support responses to spills, releases, agency visits, and other environmental events.

Waste and Materials Management

  • Support waste determinations, generator-status evaluations, labeling, storage, inspections, manifests, and recordkeeping.
  • Coordinate compliant waste transportation, recycling, and disposal with site teams and approved vendors.

Environmental Data and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate permits, inventories, inspections, waste records, corrective actions, and supporting compliance documentation.
  • Prepare reports summarizing compliance status, trends, significant risks, and overdue actions.

Program and Team Support

  • Develop and implement environmental procedures, plans, forms, inspection tools, and training materials.
  • Train and support employees, project teams, facility personnel, and subcontractors on environmental requirements and controls.
  • Partner with EHS, Operations, Facilities, Fleet, Procurement, Legal, and project leadership to integrate environmental and sustainability requirements into business activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, environmental engineering, occupational safety and health, construction management, or a related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Five or more years of relevant sustainability, environmental compliance, EHS, construction, industrial, manufacturing, or consulting experience.
  • Working knowledge of environmental requirements affecting construction projects and industrial facilities.
  • Experience managing environmental data, inspections, documentation, reporting, and corrective actions across multiple projects or locations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS or compliance-management systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting multi-state environmental compliance programs for industrial construction, fabrication, manufacturing, energy, or infrastructure operations.
  • Experience preparing greenhouse gas inventories, sustainability disclosures, client ESG responses, environmental performance dashboards, or resource-efficiency analyses.
  • Experience with air permit applicability, hazardous waste generator requirements, SPCC, stormwater, wastewater or discharge requirements, EPCRA reporting, and environmental incident response.
  • Experience with data visualization, compliance or ESG management software, emissions calculations, sustainability frameworks, or green building documentation.
  • Relevant professional certification or training such as CHMM, REM, ASP, CSP, OSHA 30, HAZWOPER, or DOT hazardous materials training.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to interpret regulatory and permit requirements and translate them into clear field actions.
  • Strong attention to detail, recordkeeping discipline, and ability to manage multiple deadlines across locations and projects.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with employees, subcontractors, clients, vendors, regulators, and leadership.
  • Ability to build cooperative working relationships and influence compliance without direct authority.
  • Comfort working independently in office, shop, yard, and active construction environments.

This role requires compliance with all applicable safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and Loenbro's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies.
