Accounting Manager
The Accounting Manager oversees the accounting functions for a portfolio of real estate assets, including retail, commercial, or mixed-use properties. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, manages a team of property accountants, coordinates with property management teams, and drives process improvements across the accounting operations.
Responsibilities:
- Assume the role of financial expert for our properties, which are often complex in nature.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company standards.
- Works closely with the property managers to ensure consistency and promote effectiveness in operations reporting.
- Ensures implementation of company-wide property management accounting and reporting initiatives.
- Reviews monthly reporting packages of other accountants for institutional owners and asset managers.
- Maintains a calendar of all required by debt covenant reporting deadlines and timely reporting as required by covenants.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting processes in coordination with clients and property managers.
- Analyzes data from several sources and provides accurate and complete answers for owners.
- Provide mentorship to optimize operational efficiency.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounting procedures and internal controls.
- 40-45 hours per week based on reporting cycles.
- Handles other duties as assigned by Assistant Controller.
Desired Competency, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting (Master’s preferred)
- CPA or CPA Candidate preferred, but not required
- 5+ years of real estate with Commercial Property Accounting experience preferred
- GAAP experience required
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- High degree of professionalism in addition to excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Team oriented, with the ability to build effective relationships in a cohesive business environment
- High proficiency in EXCEL is desired
- MRI and/or Yardi preferred
