Goal of This Role:

The Robotics Test & Validation Engineer will ensure our robotic systems perform reliably under diverse conditions. You will design and execute rigorous test plans, analyze performance data, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive product improvements. Your work will enhance the reliability, maintainability, and scalability of our systems, reducing failures in the field, lowering maintenance costs, and accelerating product iterations. By implementing a robust and standardized testing framework, you will play a pivotal role in driving quality improvements across both hardware and software platforms. This role reports to Jeremy Allen, VP of Engineering, and is part of the Systems Engineering team.


What You'll Do:

  • Develop & Implement a Standardized Testing Framework within 90 days to systematically validate hardware and software reliability, reducing failure rates and improving operational uptime.
  • Expand Automated Testing Coverage to 80% for core systems within six months, decreasing manual testing time and enhancing efficiency.
  • Accelerate Root-Cause Analysis by 30%, streamlining diagnostics and driving faster product improvements.
  • Enhance Manufacturing Quality by collaborating with production teams to reduce defect rates and improve scalability.
  • Reduce Flight Hours-to-Issue Ratio by 40%, minimizing field failures and maximizing reliability.
  • Design & Execute Comprehensive Test Plans for both hardware and software validation, including automated and manual test procedures tailored to robotic systems.
  • Coordinate System Integration & Validation, working closely with design and development teams to ensure seamless feature integration through rigorous lab and field testing.
  • Analyze & Interpret Test Results, identifying performance trends, diagnosing failures, and providing actionable insights for product iteration.
  • Develop Automated Test Suites & Data Collection Tools to enhance real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and predictive maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot & Resolve Technical Issues, collaborating with engineers to diagnose problems, implement corrective measures, and validate their effectiveness.
  • Report on Key Testing Metrics, communicating findings and driving continuous improvements across hardware and software platforms.
  • Document & Improve Testing Processes, maintaining clear records of testing procedures, configurations, and results while proposing enhancements to methodologies and product designs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in testing, validation, or quality assurance within the robotics or automation industry.
  • Hands-on experience with automated test equipment, data acquisition systems, and relevant testing software.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in developing automated testing frameworks and writing test scripts.
  • Knowledge of control systems, sensor integration, and robotic kinematics.
  • Understanding of regulatory standards and best practices in product safety and reliability.
  • Prior experience working in a startup or fast-paced development environment.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools and prototyping techniques.

This role is based on-site in Charlotte, NC, and requires regular collaboration with the on-site team.
