AI Architect

Remote / Charlotte, NC

About Lucid Bots

Lucid Bots Inc. is an AI robotics company that extends human reach by building the world's most productive and responsible robots. Our robots allow people to perform dangerous and demanding tasks without putting human life and safety at risk.

Headquartered in Charlotte, we design, engineer, manufacture, and support our products domestically. Our current line of production-ready robots includes the Sherpa, a cleaning drone, and the Lavo Bot, a pressure-washing ground-based robot. Our products elevate safety and efficiency for customers all around the world. Lucid Bots was recently recognized as the fourth fastest-growing manufacturing company in the United States.

We are venture-backed, with multi-round investments from Y Combinator (S19 batch), Cubit Capital, Idea Fund Partners, Danu Ventures, and others. Learn more about our vision.

Our Core Values and How We Work Together

Meeting the demands of our fast-growing venture-backed startup requires commitment from every team member—a commitment to each other, to the customers, and to the broader community. Our core values guide us in how we fulfill that commitment every day:

  • Lead with Compassion: Foster an inclusive and supportive environment where people feel valued and heard.
  • Grow with Purpose: Embrace learning, adaptation, and intentional decision-making.
  • Win as One Team: Collaborate and share ownership of our vision and outcomes.
  • Be Positive Agents of Change: Take ownership and drive impactful actions.
  • Pursue Extraordinary Impact: Solve meaningful problems with innovation and effort.

Goal of This Role

The AI Architect will lead the vision and implementation of fully autonomous software development pipelines.

We're looking for a systems thinker with deep experience in traditional software engineering who also sees where the future is headed: AI-native developer environments, agentic pipelines, and self-healing, self-deploying infrastructure. You will architect the core tooling and workflows that allow Lucid Bots (and our bots) to build, test, deploy, and learn—autonomously.

You’ll collaborate closely with our Chief AI Officer, CEO and technical leadership to shape a platform that supports both internal product development and intelligent automation at scale.

How You Will Flourish in This Role

This role is for someone who has “seen it all” in the traditional software world—CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, large-scale deployments—and is now hungry to reinvent it all through an AI-first lens.

You’ll thrive here if you’re passionate about building autonomous systems that do the work previously done by large teams: writing code, reviewing pull requests, updating dependencies, deploying safely, and iterating in real-time. You’ll design the architecture that makes this possible.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and implement AI-native development workflows: autonomous agents that write, test, ship, and improve code.
  • Architect intelligent pipelines that work across domains—from internal software tools to real-world robotics systems.
  • Evaluate and integrate modern dev tools (like Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Code Interpreter-style agents, etc.) into a cohesive platform.
  • Build secure, observable, and scalable systems that support continuous learning and feedback loops.
  • Define standards for agentic development across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and embedded systems (if applicable).
  • Partner with engineers, product teams, and leadership to align AI capabilities with business outcomes.
  • Lead proof-of-concepts and production rollouts for autonomous code pipelines.
  • Act as the technical thought leader on AI development tooling within the company.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering or systems architecture, with deep understanding of traditional SDLC.
  • Proven expertise designing large-scale CI/CD pipelines and developer platforms.
  • Familiarity with emerging AI dev tooling: Cursor, Copilot, GPT-4-based agents, or similar.
  • Strong software design and architecture skills, especially in modular, service-oriented systems.
  • Solid understanding of LLM-based toolchains, embeddings, function-calling, and memory architectures is a plus.
  • Ability to build resilient, observable, and secure infrastructure on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP).
  • Experience building platforms that abstract complexity and empower others to move faster.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to operate in ambiguity and ship quickly.
  • Bonus: Experience working with autonomous systems or simulation frameworks, but not required.

Why Join Lucid Bots?

  • Be at the forefront of redefining how software is written, deployed, and maintained.
  • Architect a next-generation AI-native platform that touches everything from dev tools to physical automation.
  • Work directly with the Founder/CEO to shape strategic initiatives and drive long-term innovation.
  • Join a bold, curious, and mission-driven team passionate about building the future.
  • Help define what it means to build with AI—not just use it.

What We Expect You to Achieve in This Role

  • Deliver a functional, intelligent development pipeline that dramatically accelerates product velocity.
  • Demonstrate early wins with autonomous agents that perform real, measurable work.
  • Drive Lucid Bots toward being an AI-native company—not just in product, but in process.
  • Influence team-wide adoption of AI-first tooling and workflows through clarity, coaching, and systems leadership.

Additional Notes

This role is remote-friendly but requires strong collaboration with our Charlotte-based team. Travel to Charlotte for key planning and integration sessions may be required.

Benefits:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 3% retirement match
  • 15 days of paid time off (PTO)
  • 11 paid holidays
  • Company employee option plan
  • Other benefits
