Engineer, Interior Switches and Mechanisms
As an Interior Switches and Mechanisms Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of innovative electromechanical systems that enhance the user experience within the vehicle cabin. This includes the development of interior commodities such as air vents, interior switches, door release mechanisms, sliding roofs, sun visors, glove boxes, seat rail covers, and center console storage solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop electromechanical systems and components for vehicle interiors, focusing on both mechanical integrity and user interface quality.
- Innovate and propose new mechanisms that enhance interior functionality, usability, and aesthetic alignment with Lucid’s design DNA.
- Integrate mechanisms with electrical and electronic systems, including haptic switches, displays, and sensors, to ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience.
- Perform kinematic and dynamic analysis to validate mechanical concepts and optimize performance.
- Define product requirements and specifications, and develop comprehensive test plans to validate functionality, durability, haptics, and ergonomics.
- Build and test functional prototypes to assess system behavior under real-world conditions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with industrial design, electrical, software, controls, diagnostics, and manufacturing teams to ensure cohesive system integration.
- Coordinate closely with the design studio to translate conceptual designs into manufacturable and high-quality interior products.
- Work directly with suppliers and contract manufacturers to manage design releases, initiate tooling, and ensure components meet engineering and aesthetic requirements.
- Provide technical expertise in mechanism design to support cross-functional teams and assist in resolving design, production, and field issues.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in the design and development of automotive interior systems or equivalent mechanism systems in other industries.
- Proven expertise in electromechanical products involving mechanical, electrical, and software integration with a focus on premium in-cabin user experience and high cosmetic standards.
- Good understanding of mechanism components such as gears, hinges, motors, cams, linkages, actuators (linear/rotary), and dampers.
- Skilled in kinematic and stack-up analysis of mechanism assemblies using tools like CATIA.
- Proficient in defining and validating user haptics, including conducting focus group assessments and leading cross-functional conversations on tactile and interaction quality.
- Working knowledge of sensors, connectors, wiring harnesses, control systems, and related electromechanical interfaces.
- Familiarity with LIN and CAN protocols, and the ability to define high-level system architecture for signal-based user interaction models.
- Proficient in 3D CAD modeling, GD&T, and releasing engineering drawings using PLM systems.
- Working knowledge of PCB and SMT processes in a mass production environment.
- Technical expertise in manufacturing technologies such as injection molding, stamping, casting, and extrusion.
- Experienced in interpreting and leveraging results from modal analysis, FEA, and CFD simulations to inform design optimizations.
- Demonstrated ability to define product performance specifications (resolution, accuracy, noise, durability, etc.) and develop corresponding validation plans.
Education: B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required; M.S. preferred.
