
Chief Engineer, Air
At Lucid, we don’t just build cars—we redefine what’s possible in electric mobility. As Chief Engineer for the Lucid Air, you’ll report to the Vice President of Product Engineering and lead a small, high-impact team driving cross-functional excellence across the entire engineering discipline. You’ll work daily with engineering leads and company executives, setting direction, making critical technical decisions, and ensuring Lucid Air continues to set new standards in performance, design, and innovation.
This role is for a technical leader and mentor—someone who operates from first principles, inspires engineering excellence, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
This role is open to engineers who have proven technical excellence, while also being able to mentor and teach other engineers around the organization. This role will be filled by someone who is passionate about working together to make groundbreaking products with amazing innovation and a collaborative spirit.
You Will
- Maintain a high standard of engineering rigor and mentor teams across all verticals within a matrixed organization to uphold the same level of technical excellence.
- Bring diverse engineering teams together to design and develop a cohesive, world-class product that aligns with company objectives.
- Drive the complete lifecycle of issue management — from initial review and concept development through change management approval and implementation.
- Lead both system-level and vehicle-level benchmarking activities to understand industry trends, and share insights with engineering teams and leadership.
- Present technical program status in executive reviews, sourcing councils, and issue tracking meetings, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Collaborate closely with key stakeholders and attribute owners, including Vehicle Safety, Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Craftsmanship, Design Studio, and Manufacturing, to ensure alignment and delivery excellence.
- Oversee multiple high-impact projects in a fast-paced, demanding environment, balancing technical depth with execution discipline.
- Serve as a role model for the organization by fostering a culture of collaboration, positivity, and continuous improvement.
You Bring
- Extensive knowledge of physics and material science, with a strong ability to apply first-principles thinking to component and vehicle design.
- Practical background in prototype development, vehicle assembly, and service operations, ensuring design intent translates effectively to real-world execution.
- In-depth understanding of key manufacturing methods including extrusions, castings, stampings, and injection molding, with the ability to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost.
- Proven ability to operate across software, hardware, and manufacturing domains, integrating diverse disciplines into cohesive engineering solutions.
- Track record of leading complex automotive engineering programs from concept through production, delivering on performance, quality, and timing targets.
Great to Have
- Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 or similar CAD tools.
- Appreciation for software and digital systems.
- Knowledge of high voltage architectures, crash safety, vehicle dynamics, and NVH principles.
- Strong “mechanical sympathy” and an instinctive feel for vehicles.
Educational Requirements
- BS/BEng or MS/MEng in Mechanical Engineering
Base Pay Range (Annual)
$227,500 - $333,630 USD
Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
