Sr. Structural CAE Engineer, Drive Unit
As a Senior Drive Unit CAE Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping and refining drive unit designs through advanced Finite Element Analysis. Working within a dynamic team, you will drive the development of new drive units and optimize existing production units. You will take ownership of creating and analyzing simulation and validation workflows, ensuring performance requirements are met throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept to production.
Role
- Lead the analysis of innovative designs to enable early optimization, root cause identification, and failure analysis of complex mechanical issues.
- Keep up with latest simulation tool chains through literature surveys, conference proceedings, etc.
- Collaborate with Design Engineers, NVH, Build, and Test teams to drive design resolutions using CAE analysis and testing for successful and timely product launches.
- Conduct static, dynamic, structural, and thermal-mechanical analysis, with a deep understanding of material strength, fatigue, and the impact of manufacturing on part performance.
- Develop advanced FEA analysis procedures and improve correlation with physical tests to strengthen analysis accuracy and capabilities.
- Leverage optimization tools to meet performance requirements while balancing constraints like cost and mass, with a deep understanding of topology optimization and the ability to manage multiple objectives.
- Participate in CAE and design reviews to present findings and communicate analysis results to team members, cross-functional peers, and management.
- Document analysis processes and results, to ensure traceability and reproducibility.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- Solid understanding of Mechanical Engineering Fundamentals, first principles approach, and advanced finite element theory and analysis, encompassing static, dynamic, fatigue, thermal, and vibrations analyses.
- Proficient in ANSYS, OptiStruct, or other FEA software, with working knowledge of CAE pre- and post-processing tools for geometry modification and cleanup.
- Applied knowledge and experience with material science, testing, and modeling involving complex nonlinear materials.
- Proven ability to analyze data, draw appropriate conclusions, and make solid recommendations.
- Good time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and complete multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills to interact and collaborate with team members, management, and external vendors to achieve project goals.
Preferred
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience in the automotive industry and electric powertrain products.
- Experience in NVH analysis for powertrain components
- Familiarity with CAD tools such as CATIA/3DX, and capable of using CAD to develop CAE models.
- Knowledge in modeling and analyzing metal and plastic components (i.e. stampings, castings, seals, etc.)
- Experience in data and statistical analysis, including Monte Carlo simulations, Design of Experiments, and Statistical Process Control.
- Expertise in scripting (Python, Fortran, APDL, Matlab, etc.) for data analysis and FEA workflow automation and post processing.
