
Launch, Manufacturing Engineer, Paint
We are seeking a highly motivated Paint Process Engineer to help successfully launch new vehicles in our Paint Shop. The engineer will be responsible for the implementation and optimization of paint processes, equipment, tooling and quality systems using APQP methodologies. This role will serve as a key liaison between cross-functional teams, including Product Engineering, Quality, and Production, ensuring that new models meet all manufacturing, quality, and cost requirements.
You Will:
- Support production as needed.
- Lead paint shop readiness for new vehicle launches from early development through pre-production trials, ramp-up and start of production.
- Develop and implement APQP elements including DFME/PFMEA, Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, Workstation Readiness evaluations and Ergonomic Burden Assessments.
- Collaborate with Design and Product Engineering to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) input specific to paint shop requirements.
- Help achieve the defined volume, premium paint appearance quality, costs and safety objectives.
- Conduct line trials, material tests, and pre-production builds to validate process capability.
- Coordinate with equipment suppliers and contractors for new tooling, fixtures, and line modification
- Develop and implement paint process quality control plans for Pretreatment, Electrocoat, Sealer, Topcoat and Sanding/Polishing.
- Support, develop and maintain standard work, work instructions, and visual aids
- Forge excellent cross functional relationships with engineering, suppliers, quality, and manufacturing (Body-In-White & General Assembly).
- Perform trials: Coordinate with production and supporting groups.
- Manage trials, change points, PDCA and Problem Solving on a day to days basis.
- Develop and implement training programs for production associates.
- Identify, trial, and implement any new tools, equipment and processes that could improve quality and manpower efficiency.
- Track and report launch readiness metrics and open issues using structured launch tools (e.g., Open Issues Deck, Launch Scorecards).
- Effectively manage and balance safety, quality, throughput, cost, and people to provide maximum value to the customer and the company.
You Bring:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, STEM or related field, or equivalent relevant education and experience.
- Proficient in Tooling and Equipment development and supplier management.
- 2 to 3 years’ experience in automotive OEM paint shop or other manufacturing environments alike.
- Fluent in equipment & process planning, budgeting, and simultaneous engineering activities.
- Hands-on engineer with practical skills.
- Experience with Fanuc Automation systems is preferred
- Possesses mechanical aptitude and skills.
- Committed to continuous process improvement and maintenance.
- Skilled in driving adherence to standard methods and procedures.
- Knowledgeable about paint equipment layouts and functionality is preferred.
- Certification in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
