
Engineer II, Battery Cell Performance
We are seeking a highly motivated Cell Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for cell engineering activities to support performance optimization of battery cells being introduced into Lucid’s products.
Role
- Develop and execute test plans to optimize cell performance (high power charge and discharge) for real world EV usage scenarios
- Propose and lead failure mode analyses on battery cell usage in extreme conditions, explore innovative solutions to enhance the durability and reliability of the cell at different stages of life
- Work with external suppliers to ensure products meet expected performance targets and specifications
- Present results to cross-functional teams to ensure successful integration of battery cell into the vehicle
- Evaluate and benchmark new battery cell technologies using both electrochemical and analytical techniques, provide insights on the relationship between cell’s usage and material selection in EV application
Qualifications
- Strong documentation and communication skills to effectively convey findings and recommendations
- Good understanding of Li-ion battery working principles, electrochemistry
- Well-rounded engineering fundamentals and data-driven approach to problem solving and decision making
- Able to design comprehensive test plans to characterize battery performance and safety
- Hands-on experience working with lithium-ion cells and running cell tests on Maccor or Arbin cyclers
- Strong data analysis capability. Experience analyzing data with Python, Matlab, JMP, Tableau, Grafana, and/or SQL database systems
- Self-starter mentality and an eagerness to collaborate cross-functionally
Preferred
- Working experience in EV battery industries and/or collaborating with Tier 1 cell suppliers
- Experience with cylindrical, prismatic, and other commercial cell form factors
- Experience with glovebox operation and cell teardown
- Experience in usage of Simulink for basic modeling and controls
Education
- Masters or bachelor's with 2+ years of relevant work experience
Base Pay Range (Annual)
$113,800 - $156,530 USD
