
Technical Training Specialist, BIW
Position Overview:
The Technical Training Specialist will report to the Technical Training Manager and is responsible for helping employees advance their knowledge, enhance and build their technical skills, and increase the moral and attitude to prepare for success in maintaining the factory’s manufacturing equipment and facilities.
The Technical Training Specialist is responsible for the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of training resources, conducts need assessments, executes, and evaluates all training initiatives; presents training material, vendor engagement and administration of the entire user learning process and experience for the assigned function.
The goal of this role is Build capability for Body-in-White joining, fixturing, and dimensional control to achieve robust body geometry, weld integrity, and throughput.
Key Responsibilities
Training Operations
- Conduct Training Needs Assessments to identify training and development requirements
- Design and develop customized training programs, including workshops, seminars, and online learning modules
- Facilitate and deliver training programs to employees at all levels
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and provide feedback to improve future offerings
- Collaborate with line managers and HR to integrate training into the employee performance management system
- Stay abreast of industry best practices in training and learning methodologies
- Manage training budgets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Own and update the Dojo Station associated with the shop specific functions and manufacturing processes.
Technical Training Specialty and Ownership:
- Create modules on RSW, MIG/GMAW, laser welding/brazing, clinching, hemming, sealing; gun maintenance, tip dressing, nugget quality.
- Teach fixtures, clamp plans, locators, GD&T, CMM checks, inline metrology, datum strategy, tolerance stacks, re-clamping logic.
- Introduce robotics basics (ABB/Fanuc), weld schedules, path optimization, and safety.
- Develop defect prevention content: spatter control, expulsion avoidance, pull test; destructive vs. non-destructive tests; control plans.
- Coach A3, PFMEA linkage, LPA, Jidoka and Andon response.
- Cover materials behavior (aluminum/steel), galvanic concerns, sealant cure profiles.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Welding Engineering.
- 3+ years BIW or welding automation; robot programming exposure preferred.
- CLPD/ CPTD is a plus
- Exposure and experience in a training and development role in a professional setting
- Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and methodologies
- Excellent facilitation and public speaking skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
