
Intern, Mechanical Test Engineer, High Voltage Battery, Summer 2026
The High Voltage Battery Testing Team (HVBT) designs, conducts, and analyzes engineering tests for all components which make up Lucid’s world class EV battery systems.
We are seeking an intern on the High Voltage Battery Testing Team. This internship opportunity is looking for an Engineering Student with a passion for high performance Electric Vehicles and an interest in learning about and contributing to the research and testing that goes into engineering the industry-leading battery mechanical systems that bring them to life. The ideal candidate for this opportunity is someone who has a strong sense of curiosity and determination, can work well in a fast paced, team-oriented environment, who enjoys a challenge, and who intends to pursue an engineering career in the automotive or clean energy industries. The candidate is expected to have a solid foundational understanding of mechanical principles, and display proficiency in topics covered in relevant coursework or prior technical/practical experience.
Role/Responsibilities:
- Support Vibration testing of the high voltage battery pack and its components for new and future vehicles
- Contribute to validation testing for new parts/systems designs
- Assist in collection and analysis of both test and field data
- Develop hands on skills with test engineering and related equipment/processes
- Apply concepts from coursework to drive creative solutions to complex problems
- Learn how the EV startup industry operates
- Support design and analysis of fixtures for vibration tests
- Develop and strengthen communication, project/time management, technical, and presentation skills
- Learn the testing process from failure mode definition, to designing the test methods, selection and usage of relevant standards, to test execution, and finally to analyzing and reporting the status
Preferred Qualifications:
- Related project experience
- Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals
- Demonstrate ability to apply first-principles engineering
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with others
- Curious, and eager to learn
- Student project work such as Formula SAE, Baja, Solar Car, etc.
Education:
- Field(s) of study: Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program at an accredited university
- Proof of enrollment in current program (BS)
Program Information:
- Timing: May- August, or June-September pending class schedules.
- Duration of Internship: Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs.
- Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work.
- Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $35 to $43 (subject to changes).
- Relocation: May be provided on a case to case basis.
- Housing/Transportation: You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.
- Background Check: All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check.
- Drug Screening: All offers of employment are contingent on passing a drug screen.
- Medical benefits: Dental, vision, and medical on day 1 for all interns working full-time.
- Visa Sponsorship: Lucid may but is not obligated to sponsor foreign national employees requiring company sponsorship for U.S employment authorization.
Base Pay Range (hourly)
$35 - $43 USD
Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
