Technical Fellow, Telematics and Connectivity Architect
Lucid Motors is seeking a forward-thinking Telematics & Connectivity Architect to lead the design and implementation of vehicle connectivity systems. This leadership role focuses on secure, scalable, and high-performance telematics architectures that enable seamless communication, OTA updates, and compliance with global standards within the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) ecosystem. As a Technical Fellow, you will define the long-term connectivity vision and technology roadmap for Lucid’s next-generation Software-Defined Vehicle platform, ensuring scalability, security, and global compliance.
You Will:
- Architect and implement the vehicle’s embedded connectivity modules (apps, middleware, firmware).
- Drive system-level architecture decisions influencing future SDV connectivity platforms, collaborating with hardware, cloud, and software platform teams.
- Lead development of secure OTA frameworks for software, firmware, and telematics updates.
- Design and optimize communication routing architecture for low-latency, high-reliability operations.
- Ensure compliance and implementation of eCall system architectures (EU 2015/758, NG112, NENA i3).
- Define and enforce cybersecurity, privacy, and safety standards for connected vehicle systems.
- Integrate vehicle telematics with cloud-based solutions, edge computing, and intelligent data routing. Design communication gateways integrating vehicle networks (CAN, CAN-FD, FlexRay, Automotive Ethernet) with telematics and cloud systems using protocols like SOME/IP, DDS, and MQTT.
- Integrate telematics systems with vehicle diagnostics and health management systems (UDS, OBD-II), enabling predictive maintenance and remote troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with automotive cybersecurity regulations and standards such as ISO/SAE 21434 and UNECE R155/R156, including secure boot, certificate management, and trusted execution environments (TEEs).
- Architect connectivity solutions aligned with service-oriented SDV platforms, enabling modular, over-the-air updatable services and distributed control logic.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware/software teams, cybersecurity, and global regulatory experts.
- Provide technical mentorship and drive innovation across connectivity technologies.
You Bring:
- 10+ years of experience architecting and developing automotive connectivity and telematics systems within software-defined vehicle (SDV) platforms.
- Deep technical expertise in embedded software and systems architecture for vehicle connectivity modules, middleware, and telematics firmware.
- Experience with service-oriented and cloud-native architectures for SDV platforms, enabling modular, updatable, and data-driven vehicle services.
- Proven experience designing and implementing scalable, secure over-the-air (OTA) update frameworks and cloud-integrated communication pathways.
- Strong understanding of RF principles, antenna design, and wireless performance optimization in automotive environments.
- Advanced knowledge of cellular and wireless communication technologies (5G, LTE, V2X, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GNSS), including protocol stack integration with embedded and real-time systems.
- Demonstrated ability to architect end-to-end communication systems linking in-vehicle networks (CAN, CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet) with telematics and cloud platforms using protocols such as SOME/IP, DDS, and MQTT.
- Expertise in regulatory compliance for global emergency call systems (EU eCall, NG112, NENA i3) and telecommunication standards.
- Deep familiarity with automotive cybersecurity and privacy standards, including ISO/SAE 21434 and UNECE R155/R156, and implementation of secure boot, certificate management, and trusted execution environments.
- Proficiency in cloud integration, edge computing, and intelligent data routing for connected vehicle ecosystems.
- Strong technical leadership, with the ability to mentor cross-functional teams and drive innovation across connectivity and RF domains.
Great to Have:
- Familiarity with mobile development supporting vehicle telematics and remote controls.
- Familiarity with diagnostic systems and integration with telecommunication modules.
Education:
- BS degree in Telecommunications, Electrical/Software Engineering, or related field.
- Masters. preferred with focus on connected vehicle systems or telematics.
Base Pay Range (Annual)
$211,500 - $310,200 USD
Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k.
