
Maintenance Controls Technician
Candidates should possess a general knowledge of mission critical directives and situations surrounding process equipment in all areas inside the walls of the facility. They must help to develop strategies to meet team and company goals. Reports to the various supervisors and managers throughout the production organization. As a controls technician, your primary responsibilities include the setup, programming, testing, and implementation of computer control systems used for production automation and industrial equipment design. The Technician must be able to practice teamwork and team building within our organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop company level, factory level, and line/machine level controls standards and specification for application by internal equipment development team and external partners.
- Create data management and tracking communications network architecture and interface with cross-functional teams for product, processes and quality traceability control implementation.
- Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
- Architect, write and debug PLC ladder logic with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable. PLC code will interact with subsystems such as conveyors, robots, Manufacturing Execution System (MES), LabView, machine vision, and 3rd party equipment.
- Enforce application of Lucid Motors standards, Manage external integrators during specification, design review, design approval.
- Establish test plans and control test plan execution at Vendor and at Lucid Motors facility during installation and buy-off.
- Characterize and validate automated processes using a data-driven statistical approach such as Capacity test, Capability test (Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility test, Cpk, etc.)
- Train Maintenance and Production teams to support automated equipment after deployment into production
- Debug and optimize automated processes to maximize cycle time, improve availability and yield.
- Assist the development of the maintenance technical team members in becoming better troubleshooters.
- Provide input to new equipment controls in development.
Requirements
- BS/MS Electrical Engineering (or equivalent –Computer Control Systems, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc).
- 2+ years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Robotics Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems.
- In depth knowledge of maintenance activities, TPM scheduling and the production / manufacturing industry.
- In-depth knowledge of Electrical Standards.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant Safety standards.
- Advanced proficiency programming industrial equipment.
- Siemens program functionality and troubleshooting.
- Ladder logic PLCs (Allen Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix and RS-Logix 5000).
- Safety PLCs (Allen Bradley Contro-Logix).
- Human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI - AB Panel view, FactoryTalk, LabView, Ignition).
- Field bus Networks (AB Device Net, Ethernet IP, Safety rated field bus networks).
- Serial communication (RS-232) between PLCs and instruments.
- Ethernet communications between machine PLCs and database systems.
- Proficiency selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD and servo systems.
- Proficiency creating detailed electrical and fluid schematics in CAD (AutoCAD Electrical preferred).
- Exposure to a wide variety of production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment (LVDT and pressure transducers, dispense systems, temperature controllers, DC torque controllers, current and power meters).
- Experience with Vision systems is a plus.
- Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment is highly desired.
- Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production desired.
- Knowledge of production quality metrics is a plus.
- Experience or knowledge of incoming power distribution networks is a plus.
