Sr. Field Quality Engineer, Powertrain

Engineering | Phoenix, AZ | Full-Time

About Lucid

At Lucid, we are creating an electric future without compromise. That means refusing to choose between performance and sustainability, design and engineering, ambition and integrity. We build world-class vehicles by pushing performance, efficiency, and design beyond industry limits, setting new standards with vehicles like Lucid Air and Lucid Gravity.

The people here—engineers, designers, operators, and builders—came from across industries and around the world because they wanted to work on a harder problem. They care deeply about mastering their craft and delivering work they’re proud of. We trust you to take ownership, push beyond what is expected, and help write the playbook for what comes next.

By refusing to settle, you help shape the future of electric mobility and prove what’s possible when craft and ambition refuse to compromise each other.

The Role

Lucid’s powertrain systems are among the most advanced in the industry, and this role exists to ensure they perform flawlessly in the real world. As a Sr. Field Quality Engineer, Powertrain, you will serve as the critical link between customer-facing field issues and the engineering teams responsible for long-term solutions. You will investigate complex issues across High Voltage Battery, Drive Unit, Charging, High Voltage Distribution, and Thermal Systems, transforming field data into actionable insights that improve vehicle reliability and customer satisfaction.

Success in the first 12 months means reducing time-to-root-cause for critical powertrain issues, improving corrective action effectiveness, and driving measurable improvements in vehicle uptime and field quality performance. What you will find here that you will not find elsewhere is direct ownership of some of the most advanced EV powertrain technologies in production today, with the opportunity to influence both immediate customer outcomes and future product development.

What You'll Own

Powertrain Diagnostics & Investigation: Lead the investigation of complex field issues involving High Voltage Battery Packs, Drive Units, Charging Systems, High Voltage Distribution, and Thermal Systems. Perform hands-on vehicle diagnostics, data collection, signal validation, and component-level analysis to identify failure modes.

Root Cause Analysis & Resolution: Drive or support structured root cause investigations, differentiating between design, manufacturing, supplier, integration, and service-related issues. Partner with engineering teams to validate solutions and confirm corrective action effectiveness.

Field Data Analytics: Utilize warranty data, vehicle telemetry, diagnostics, and field reports to identify trends, prioritize emerging issues, and quantify customer impact. Monitor issue progression across vehicle configurations, model years, and production changes.

Cross-Functional Technical Leadership: Collaborate closely with Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Diagnostics, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, and Service teams to accelerate issue resolution and improve product robustness.

Issue Lifecycle Management: Manage field quality concerns from identification through closure, including replication, documentation, severity assessment, corrective action tracking, validation, and verification activities.

Customer & Reliability Improvement: Identify high-severity and high-frequency issues affecting customers, reduce repeat repairs and vehicle downtime, and recommend improvements to diagnostic strategies, service procedures, and repair methods.

What You Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience supporting electric vehicle powertrain systems, including one or more of the following: High Voltage Battery Packs, Drive Units, Charging Systems, High Voltage Distribution, and Thermal Systems.
  • Strong technical understanding of EV powertrain architecture, diagnostics, and system interactions.
  • Demonstrated experience performing root cause analysis and solving complex technical problems using engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to analyze diagnostic data, vehicle logs, fault codes, and field performance metrics to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, quality, manufacturing, service, and supplier teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in Field Quality, Product Quality, Sustaining Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or related functions.

Preferred

  • 8+ years of experience supporting electric vehicle powertrain systems.
  • Automotive OEM experience with electric vehicle development, launch, or production support.
  • Experience supporting two or more full vehicle or powertrain product development cycles.
  • Demonstrated involvement in new product launches and mass production environments.
  • Experience with structured quality and problem-solving methodologies, including FMEA, 8D, DOE, SPC, Ishikawa Analysis, Control Plans, PPAP, and related quality tools.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Direct experience supporting field issue investigations involving customer vehicles.

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
