Network Operations Engineer

Position Overview:
As an Orbital Operations Engineer at Lumen Orbit, you will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing our satellite network. This dynamic position requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual to monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance the performance of our space-based data processing centers. You will lead efforts in network health monitoring, issue resolution, and system improvements, ensuring our satellite network operates at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Monitoring and Management:
- Lead a team of technicians to monitor overall network health, ensuring rapid identification and resolution of network issues.
- Utilize quantitative and qualitative methods to understand root causes of new and trending issues.
- Develop triage methods and troubleshooting playbooks to deliver quicker response times and resolution speeds.
- Operational Excellence:
- Ensure established processes are followed for appropriate response to network issues.
- Collaborate with internal automation and tooling development teams to enhance Network Operations Center performance and productivity.
- Develop and implement training programs and coaching tools to ensure technicians are knowledgeable, nimble, technically capable, and excellent communicators.
- Team Leadership:
- Assess employee performance, manage work quality, provide feedback, and facilitate conflict resolution.
- Lead by example, motivate your team to achieve the highest level of results, and foster a culture of operational rigor where network health is a priority.
- Manage scheduling, time off, and time cards to ensure 24/7 coverage for the Network Operations Center.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of leadership experience in one or more of the following areas; OR high school diploma or equivalency certification and 5+ years of leadership experience in one or more of the following:
- Customer Operations
- Network Operations Center (NOC)
- Security Operations Center (SOC)
- Managed Service Provider (MSP)
- Network Engineering
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing a team as either a front-line supervisor, shift lead, or team lead.
- Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
- Completion of leadership and rotational development and/or IT service management incident management programs.
- Experience in training, learning and development, analytics, vendor management, or content management roles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Experience in mission-critical operations requiring outstanding attention to detail.
- Technical aptitude with experience in networking, hardware troubleshooting, software development, etc.
- Proficiency with reporting tools (Advanced Excel, SQL, dashboarding/reporting/visualization platforms).
- Active associate-level certifications (Cisco, Juniper, CompTIA, or other industry certifications).
Compensation and Benefits:
Lumen Orbit offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including:
- Orbital Operations Engineer/Level I: $120,000 - $145,000 per year
- Orbital Operations Engineer/Level II: $140,000 - $170,000 per year

Additional Requirements:
