About The Position

The Surveying Technician I will be a vital member of the Surveying Team and will help gather preliminary information for field surveys and assist with fieldwork calculations.  This position includes both office and field duties and is a full-time, entry-level position based out of our Fallon office.

  • Assists with setting up and operating surveying instruments and equipment, including levels, total stations, UAV’s, 3D Scanners, and GNSS receivers.
  • Transports, sets up, and breaks down survey instruments and tools at job sites.
  • Performs basic data collection and data entry.
  • Records field notes and measurements, and observations accurately.
  • Layout and recovers markings, stakes, and other such signifiers at job sites.
  • Maintains and organizes surveying equipment. Keeps adequate survey supplies stocked in the survey truck.
  • Takes inventory and maintains equipment for use by survey teams, including vehicles, electronics, and field supplies.
  • Communicates effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure fieldwork aligns with project needs.
  • Participates in team meetings and maintains a positive, cooperative attitude with field crews.
  • Learns and follows company safety, field, and office procedures.
  • Learns and applies basic surveying terminology, methods, and standards.
  • safely performs work. Reports repairs or safety concerns to management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED supplemented by surveying coursework or an Associate Degree, preferred.
  • Completion of OSHA 10-Hour Safety Training or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of start date.
  • Completion of MSHA Training or ability to obtain within 3 months of start date.
  • Basic grammar, spelling, and ability to perform mathematical/geometry skills such as addition and subtraction.
  • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook), preferred.
  • Attention to detail; ability to produce neat, legible field notes.
  • Ability to work necessary hours to complete work within required time frames with regard to deadlines.
  • Willing to work in the field/outside with an understanding of the elements of being outdoors.
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record with 3 or less demerit points.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Reach with hands and arms; climb stairs/ladder; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
  • Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
  • Carry equipment up and down steep terrain. Walk, stand, crouch, or run on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. 
  • Drive stakes into various ground surfaces using forceful, repetitive swinging motions.
  • Work is regularly performed for sustained periods outdoors in hot, cold, or inclement weather.
