Lumos is looking for a full-time Cable Splicing Tech! If you’re an experienced splicer or telecom construction professional who’s excited for a fast-paced experience, ready to help us grow, and ready to recommend process changes that ensure we’re harnessing our technology to the best of our ability while broadening our ability to set up and maintain our service, we want to hear from you!

Cable Splicing Techs bring Lumos across our regions to the communities we serve – skillfully connecting fiber in Outside Plant (OSP) worksites to the point where service can be turned up. Splice & connect fiber in aerial and underground (buried drop) facilities, within confined spaces. Requires fitness for duty, on-call rotation, and occasional night and weekend work to accommodate maintenance or emergencies.

Our Cable Splicing Techs must be able to climb poles, work aloft using climbing gaffs & ladders, and use a bucket truck to perform detailed splicing functions. 

***Typical Hours: Monday – Friday 8am-4:30pm.

Essential Functions 

  • Splices, connects, installs, repairs & maintains fiber cables throughout the network.
  • Constructs a proper splice case: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage & sealing.
  • Prepares and maintains splicing records, schematics & diagrams.
  • Manages, tracks, and prioritizes customer projects for turn-up & test – sorting & routing jobs to prioritize daily work in alignment with direction from leadership.
  • Reads and interprets OSP & customer plant facility records and engineering schematics.
  • Reviews Planning Guides and sets up HR’s for night maintenance window work.
  • Completes MetaSolv tasks & documentation assignments to track work progress.
  • Maintains tools & trucks - tests equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Complies with all safety regulations & requirements to maintain a successful safety record.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including departmental and cross-functional projects. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required                                                                                                                              

  • Solid interpersonal skills, as well as written & verbal communication skills.
  • Competent computer and organizational skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong project management – successfully interacts with multiple internal & external stakeholders.

Other Experience & Requirements

  • 2-5 years’ experience as a splicer or equivalent construction experience.     
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid, fully unencumbered driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated with industry construction & engineering design practices.
  • Proactive, independent, and ability to take initiative to keep on-task and on-target.
  • Fiber or Telecom industry experience preferred. 

Physical Requirements

  • Walks, stoops, bends, crouches & lifts up to 75lbs consistently.
  • Able to climb poles, work aloft using climbing gaffs & ladders, and use a bucket truck to perform detailed splicing functions safely.
  • Able to walk safely and in alignment with specific safety guidelines.
  • Near-constant use of sight, speech, hearing, comprehension, and reasoning.
