
IT Engineer - Infrastructure Network

Lumos is now hiring a highly skilled and motivated IT Engineer – Infrastructure Network with advanced expertise in Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), Palo Alto Firewall administration, and strong proficiency in routing and switching technologies. In this role, you will design, implement, secure, and maintain our enterprise network infrastructure to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance. You’ll also serve as a key technical resource within the Corporate Technology Department, leveraging your expertise to troubleshoot issues, optimize systems, and deliver reliable solutions across both data and voice networks.

Essential Functions
- Design, deploy, and maintain Cisco ACI fabrics, including tenant configuration, contracts, policies, and integration with virtualization platforms.
- Configure, administer, and optimize Palo Alto firewalls, including security policies, VPNs, threat prevention, and high availability.
- Lead advanced troubleshooting and performance optimization for routing and switching protocols, including BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF.
- Manage and maintain core, distribution, and access-layer network devices to ensure reliable operations across multiple sites.
- Collaborate with security teams to ensure network compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Monitor network health and performance using enterprise monitoring tools, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Provide input on capacity planning, architecture improvements, and technology refresh strategies.
- Create and maintain network documentation, including diagrams, standards, and procedures.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for escalations and mentor junior engineers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in enterprise network engineering roles.
Other Experience & Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise with Cisco ACI (design, implementation, and operations).
- Proven experience administering and securing Palo Alto Networks firewalls (PAN-OS, Panorama).
- Strong background in routing and switching protocols: BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, VLANs, and spanning-tree.
- Hands-on experience with layer 2/3 troubleshooting, packet capture, and traffic analysis tools.
- Solid understanding of network security concepts including segmentation, threat detection, and zero-trust principles.
- Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery networking designs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred Certifications:
- CCNP
- CCIE
- PCNSE
- Experience integrating Cisco ACI with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, or cloud environments).
- Scripting or automation experience (Python, Ansible, etc.) for network operations.
- Experience with SD-WAN technologies and next-generation network architecture.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks (e.g., PCI-DSS, HIPAA, NIST).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including documentation and reporting.
- Basic project management skills, including task prioritization and meeting deadlines.
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Physical Requirements
- Regular use of computers, phones, and standard IT equipment.
- The ability to move and transport equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching during equipment installation or servicing.
- Travel to Lumos locations as needed, including occasional overnight stays.
- Work in office, field, and construction site environments in various weather conditions.
- Continuous use of vision, hearing, speech, and reasoning to perform job duties.
