Lunar Energy is seeking an Applications Engineer to serve as a vital liaison between end product users (home owners), installers (Lunar’s direct customers) and Lunar’s Engineering and Operations teams. Applications Engineers are a key product expert that must understand product operation at both a technical level and from the end user’s perspective, and be capable of communicating with all parties. As a startup, Applications Engineers support many different functions, but this role will have three key focus areas: new product/feature testing, remote troubleshooting, and failure analysis.  This includes designing, developing, testing, and implementing sophisticated solutions in tandem with the hardware and software engineering teams.  This also includes real time support for issues escalated by Tier 2. By providing technical support and expertise, they ensure that applications meet customer needs and address common challenges. You will be responsible for the go-to-market of the Lunar System, our next-gen solar and battery energy storage system, and expanding to other energy hardware products that enable all-electric homes. You will play a key role in gathering market requirements and creating and maintaining roadmaps to develop scalable, compelling product offerings.  You will have a critical, cross-functional role, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality hardware products and a world-class experience for both end customers and installers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Technical Documentation: Create, review, and update technical support documentation for internal and external audiences.
  • Fleet Monitoring and Data Analysis: Use fleet data for identify issues and prioritize them for the broader team according to their frequency and severity. Work with software and hardware engineers to. validate fixes, FW releases, track product health, and identify failure and pre-failure telemetry signatures
  • Tier 3 Support: Collaborate with and support the Tier 2 team to troubleshoot issues in the fieldRMA approvals: Develop processes to remotely troubleshoot issues, approve hardware replacements where appropriate, and facilitate Engineering teams to root cause returned merchandise
  • Project Management: Handle project and task management. Summarize key findings and communicate that to a wide audience. Product Improvement: Leverage customer feedback and sales data to identify areas of focus. Research and recommend improvements to products and systems.
  • Quality Assurance (people): Ensure the quality of work performed by team members.
  • Quality Assurance (product): Collaborate with departmental teams to ensure the quality of product reaching installers on day 0, and for the warrantied life of the product
  • Product Roadmap: Create and maintain product roadmaps. Craft detailed business cases, and market and product requirements to ruthlessly drive prioritization with program management, engineering, and commercial teams
  • Adherence to Standards: Adhere to and contribute to development policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Problem-Solving: Solve complex issues or recommend solutions.
  • Presentations: Present product value propositions, differentiations, and benefits effectively to end customers, installers, and internal teams. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to create compelling marketing materials and clear product messaging. 
  • Mentorship: Instruct and guide less senior engineers, electricians, and technicians
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interact with business stakeholders to refine requirements and feedback.
  • User Interaction: Interact with the user community to solve problems and improve the system.
  • Estimation and Analysis: Estimate high-level business requirements and provide options analysis.
  • Incident Management: Ensure resolved incidents are properly documented and closed.

Desired Skills: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in  applicable electrical, firmware, or software engineering in the energy sector or with similar integrate hardware/software products 
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field 
  • Experience developing or commercializing energy products, including solar, energy storage, EV charging, or other power equipment products.  
  • Ability to quickly grasp product capabilities and constraints, and effectively communicate to non-technical audiences. 
  • Experience working with hardware OEMs on vendor qualification and co-development
  • Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to synthesize large qualitative and quantitative information from market research, sales feedback, and customer conversations into actionable product insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to execute parallel projects in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Deep passion for home electrification, sustainable energy, and user-centric designs. 
  • Able to work onsite most working days.

Our Compensation Philosophy: Our goal is to ensure that all Lunar Energy employees are fairly compensated. Please note that the salary range information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position provided pursuant to the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act for California applicants. The salary range estimate for this position depending on level of experience is: $120,000 - $170,000 USD.

The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package & benefits, will be at the company’s sole discretion, and determined by factors including but not limited to years of experience, job level, geographic location, and other relevant business considerations.
