Job Type: Permanent Full Time. Remote role, with occasional travel required locally and globally.

Retail Shop Support and Planning Construction Manager plays an essential role in the management of the full construction process for Lush retail shops and company projects, from design concept to turnover of completed store/projects. This person is passionate about providing unique experiences that elevate the brand, staff and customer experience.

 Reporting to the Head of North America Property, your core RESPONSIBILITIES will include:

  • Lead the North American Shop Support and Planning (SSP) Construction team and partner with the Shop and Space Planning manager to lead the work of the SSP  Design team including;
    • Manage the construction process for Lush retail store and company projects, from design concept to turnover of completed store/projects
    • Manage a high volume of locations/projects at a time
    • Define the job scope for construction projects and develop the project schedule
    • Develop the initial estimate for approval and manage it throughout each project
    • Coordinate with Property, Finance and Global Construction and Design, reviewing costs and timing, ensuring budget and schedule compliance
    • Review all change orders and invoices for accuracy and process for approvals..
    • Coordinate with the store design team to finalize the project scope and partner with architects to obtain drawing and permit requirements.
    • Assign projects to appropriate individuals/companies including internal Project Managers, external contractors and vendors
    • Oversee and support the construction team (6) and Shop Maintenance (2)
    • Provide career development for team members
    • Support Construction Project Managers on the shop fit-outs, with high level expertise in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, CAD and all other construction related items
    • Provide feedback and support for internal stakeholders in teams such design, leasing, merchandising, shop openers, sustainability, IT, retail and finance
    • Ensure that all proper materials going into shops are per design specifications and ordered with proper time to adhere to timeline/budget.
    • Ensure that the quality of each project is above industry standard.
    • Lead all meetings related to Lush Construction including real estate property meetings, pre-construction kickoff, design review, architectural meetings, fiscal budget planning to provide updates on the appropriate projects
    • Liaise with architects and cities to get permit timing
    • Develop and maintain a proper portfolio shop repair and maintenance program.
    • Ensure all shops are immediately serviced, in a trackable format with both timing and budget for both maintenance and repairs.
    • Prepare all shops with the proper maintenance tools, as well as proper procedures to maintain their shops such as cut sheets, how to guides on air/drainage/electrical, contact information for escalations
    • Continuously evaluate performance of internal and external resources; propose and implement changes as required to ensure an optimally functioning organization and a high-performance vendor and consultant resource pool.
    • Conducting post-opening audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure ongoing optimization of shops.
    • Staying up-to-date on the latest retail design trends and best practices.

You bring the following QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in retail construction and facility management with demonstrated career growth.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team player, with a positive attitude.
  • Experience leading a diverse team in a retail construction environment
  • Outstanding experience working cross functionally with teams such as design, project management, leasing and real estate
  • Demonstrated project management attributes
  • Strong budget analysis and management skills
  • Ability to read and understand all M.E.P plans, architectural plans and structural plans
  • Experience in phased construction projects in existing retail stores
  • Must be able to read and interpret lease language pertaining to construction.
  • Strong time management skills, adherence to deadlines and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organized, detail oriented, motivated and able to multi-task
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Quality decision making ability
  • Work in collaboration with Global Construction Head to propose and implement programs to strengthen and improve processes.
  • Proven success working in an ever changing environment with a strong ability to pivot on project priorities that meet the overall business strategy 

 Preferred:

  • Experience working in an in-house setting, ideally in a retail environment 
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business/Construction/Architecture management or similar 
  • Strong understanding of both US and Canadian real estate/city by-laws/permits 
  • Knowledge or expertise with proficiency in AutoCAD or similar design software
  • PMP certification

Base Salary Ranges (based on ideal locations for this role)

  • Vancouver/Toronto: $121,000 - $145,000 CAD
  • US: $120,000 - $132,500 USD

This salary ranges are based on an assessment of the local market and may vary depending on the successful candidate's location. This range is based on base salary and does not include additional bonus program and total rewards eligibility.
