Cost Engineer
About the Position
We are seeking skilled Cost Engineers to manage, update, and evaluate cost management data, including budgets and forecasts, ensuring accurate and timely cost reporting.
This posting is for future, long-term, on-site Cost Engineer positions located in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA, or potentially other areas around the state.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes designs, drawings, proposals, scopes of work, and/or specifications to determine cost projections; develop comprehensive budget cost estimates for complex infrastructure/transit/rail/roadway projects.
- Manages and maintains cost management data, including budgets and forecasts, to ensure accurate and timely reporting of costs.
- Compiles and reviews monthly reports to verify cost data accuracy.
- Analyzes variances in cost and schedule, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
- Provides support during reviews and meetings related to project controls.
- Provides guidance, direction, and specialized assistance to others in the resolution of project control issues.
- Develops updates to assist project control efforts, including tracking of budgets, actuals, accruals, forecasts, and changes.
- Contributes to the preparation, assembly, and production of program reports that could include earned value, risk, cost, progress, cash flow, schedule, and other key metrics.
- Performs Quality Control and Quality Assurance and reviews of complex cost estimates, making adjustments as needed.
- Collaborates with various teams to gather necessary cost data.
- Develops accruals and burn rates for approval; verifies that changes are reflected correctly in the cost forecast, assessing impacts on contingency, escalation, and cash flow.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years’ experience with cost engineering/scheduling on large infrastructure projects in transit, rail, aviation, and/or roadway sectors.
- Professional knowledge of cost engineering concepts, theories, principles, practices, and techniques necessary to plan, design, construct, and maintain engineering projects.
- Experience with industry standard project, cost engineering, and construction management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore, Sage Timberline, Heavy Bid, On-Screen Take Off, Bluebeam, etc.)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Work, Excel, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in the state of California.
- PMP certification through PMI or CCM through CMAA.
Compensation Details
The salary range listed for this role is $100-175k annually. The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidate’s level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc.
