Business Analyst (Rail Transit)
About the Position
We are seeking an experienced and successful Business Analyst (Rail Transit/Transportation) to evaluate business processes, anticipate requirements, uncover areas for improvement, and develop optimization strategies for projects in the heavy civil infrastructure and rail transit industries.
This is a long term, full-time, on-site position located in Washington DC.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business systems and user needs.
- Formulates systems to parallel overall business strategies.
- Prepares solution options, risk identification, and financial analyses such as cost/benefit, ROI, buy/build, etc.
- Writes detailed description of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer programs.
- Prepares and documents Functional and Technical Specifications for reporting and data warehouse work.
- Assists with business warehouse/intelligence support and enhancements.
- Develops RFPs and assists in deployment and management of end-user reporting tools and platforms.
- Works with IT and business project teams to understand reporting and data warehousing requirements and proposes solutions.
- Documents and provides knowledge transfer to the rest of the Enterprise Reporting Team for all solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, economics, accounting, computer science, or data science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years’ experience working as a Business Analyst in the transit (preferably rail transit) industry.
- Previous work experience leveraging technology to identify innovative solutions to business challenges, enhancing operational efficiency and driving business effectiveness.
- Experience identifying new applications of technology to business problems in order to drive operational efficiency and business effectiveness.
- Familiar with industry standard (transit/rail transit) terminology (including legacy, core, and emerging technologies), business process mapping, and business process reengineering.
- Familiar with relational database and client-server concepts.
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams).
Preferred Qualifications
- Project management experience and/or credentials.
Compensation Details
The salary range listed for this role is $62-156k annually. The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidate’s level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc.
