Office Engineer
About the Position
We are seeking an experienced and successful Office Engineer to serve as a key member of an engineering team for heavy civil infrastructure and transit projects. They will be responsible for managing project documentation, coordinating with field teams, ensuring compliance with design specifications, reviewing construction submittals, and overseeing the technical aspects of a project from the office, while maintaining accurate project records and reports.
This is a long term, full-time, onsite position located in the greater Washington DC metro area.
Responsibilities
- Route and track contractor submittals and RFIs for review response.
- Assess, advise, and prepare response to contractor submittals and RFI's.
- Quantify potential contract changes and facilitate and track change orders.
- Assist in the preparation of change orders.
- Process, print and file all incoming and outgoing project documents and correspondence.
- Process and distribute change proposals, design changes and change orders.
- Maintain project files, material documentation and records.
- Draft correspondence to administer the terms of agreements.
- Report on project progress and trends; draft monthly progress reports.
- Track correspondence for issue resolution, follow-up, changes, and directions.
- Prepare for and document conferences/meetings.
- Prepare meeting agendas with input from stakeholders.
- Attend progress and safety meetings as required.
- Take meeting notes; prepare and distribute minutes and notes to all parties involved.
- Compile monthly progress payments; maintain all relevant records.
- Review Contractor/Subcontractor payroll for compliance (e.g., certified payroll, pay registers, etc.)
- Assist in project close-out activities including the resolution of potential claims.
- Track and process all contract payments.
- Maintain all EEO/DBE, etc. training documentation and participation.
- Maintain project office, supplies, etc., and provide administrative support as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of relevant Office Engineer experience working on heavy civil infrastructure or transit projects.
- Familiarity with construction plans, specifications and estimate preparation, review processing, compliance requirements for construction projects, construction materials, methods and procedures.
- Experience working with contract documents and construction plans and specifications.
- Proficiency with industry standard document control software (e.g., SharePoint, E-Builder, Aconex, Procore, etc.)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Business Administration.
Compensation Details
The salary range listed for this role is $24-$31/hr ($50k-$65k/yr). The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidate’s level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc.
