BIM Modeler
About the Positions
We’re seeking BIM Modelers to support large, heavy-civil infrastructure programs—including highways, roads, bridges, transit (rail and bus), and airport projects delivered through both traditional and alternative delivery methods. These roles are ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in BIM software and a passion for turning complex infrastructure designs into coordinated, constructible models. You’ll work closely with engineers, project managers, and field teams to develop and manage 3D models that support project delivery from preconstruction through close-out.
This posting is for future roles and not for a specific opportunity that is available right now. We accept applications and conduct interviews in advance of upcoming hiring needs. When a candidate is selected, their profile is activated in our talent pool for this specialty area. We notify our talent pool candidates first whenever we have a project need. This posting targets the Greater New York City area.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop and maintain accurate 3D BIM models for civil infrastructure projects using tools such as Bentley OpenBuildings, Revit, Navisworks, or other BIM platforms.
- Interpret redlines, sketches, and engineering drawings to produce 3D models and associated 2D installation drawings.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (architectural, structural, MEP, civil) to ensure model accuracy and resolve design or constructability conflicts.
- Perform clash detection and model reviews; support integration of BIM with project schedules (4D modeling).
- Assist in the development of construction documents, shop drawings, and as-built models.
- Maintain version control and project documentation, ensuring compliance with internal and client-specific BIM standards.
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical support to design and field teams as needed.
- Perform QA/QC on models and drawings to ensure consistency and accuracy across project phases.
- Manage file uploads/downloads and ensure project models and logs remain current and properly organized.
Attributes
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent multitasking and organizational skills.
- Collaborative mindset that fosters teamwork, trust, and positive relationships.
- Natural curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
- AAS degree in computer aided drafting or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in BIM modeling for heavy civil construction or engineering projects, preferably in transit or public infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, building systems, and multi-disciplinary coordination workflows.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting orthographic (2D) and isometric (3D-style) drawings, as well as RFIs, submittals, and technical specifications.
- Hands-on experience with clash detection, 4D modeling, and federated BIM coordination across disciplines.
- Proficiency with Bentley OpenBuildings/AECOsim, Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and/or Autodesk BIM 360 (Construction Cloud).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in drafting or civil engineering technology.
- Active professional certifications such as Autodesk Certified Professional (Revit, Civil 3D, or Navisworks); Autodesk Certified Expert (ACE); BuildingSMART International – BIM Certification Program; Certified BIM Modeler (CanBIM or buildingSMART affiliated); or AGC Certificate of Management – Building Information Modeling (CM-BIM).
- Experience with large (>$500M), complex, heavy-civil infrastructure projects that include highways, roads, bridges, transit (including rail and bus), and/or airport projects.
- Experience delivering projects through both traditional and alternative methods (e.g., DB, CM/GC, P3).
- Experience in project management roles supporting owners.
- Experience with Synchro, ProjectWise, or other BIM collaboration and model management platforms.
