Senior Project Manager
About the Positions
We’re seeking Senior Project Managers to support large, complex heavy civil infrastructure programs, including highways, roads, bridges, transit (bus and rail), aviation (international airports), and water/wastewater projects delivered through both traditional and alternative delivery methods. Your primary focus will be centered on heavy structural steel packages for underground stations, including the high-strength beams, columns, and reinforcing frameworks that build and support the station structure, where delivery turns on fabrication surveillance, erection sequencing, and holding cost and schedule commitments on a constrained urban site.
This post is for future roles and not for a specific opportunity that is available right now. We accept applications and conduct interviews in advance of upcoming hiring needs. When a candidate is selected, their profile is activated in our talent pool for this specialty area. We notify our talent pool candidates first whenever we have a project need.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage delivery of assigned construction packages from preconstruction through closeout, serving as the day-to-day point of contact for contractors, designers, and third parties.
- Oversee heavy structural steel fabrication and erection for underground station framing, including high-strength beams, columns, and reinforcing frameworks, with shop drawing and submittal review, fabrication shop surveillance, mill certification and material traceability verification, and erection sequencing.
- Verify that contractor welding, high-strength bolting, and nondestructive testing meet AWS D1.1, RCSC, and applicable seismic requirements, and that quality control records support acceptance of the installed work.
- Review station structural submittals, including steel connections, reinforcing, embeds, and interfaces with support of excavation, waterproofing, and structural concrete, for conformance with contract documents, design criteria, and agency requirements.
- Perform constructability and biddability reviews, track comment resolution to closure, and support bid-phase addenda, bidder questions, and bid evaluation.
- Evaluate requests for information, change proposals, and design change notices for technical merit, cost, and schedule impact, and prepare recommendations.
- Verify installed work and submitted quantities against approved documents, and support progress payment review.
- Analyze critical path schedule updates and cost performance against baseline, maintain the project risk register, and escalate adverse trends early.
- Coordinate with adjacent contracts, utility owners, permitting bodies, and operating transit and rail facilities to sequence work around live service and maintain access, safety, and protection requirements.
- Administer construction contracts, including notices, claims avoidance, documentation of entitlement positions, and support for change order negotiation.
- May lead a project team of engineers, inspectors, and coordinators, setting priorities and reviewing work products.
Attributes
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
- Collaborative mindset that fosters teamwork, trust, and positive relationships.
- Natural curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction engineering, construction management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of project management experience for large (>$500M), complex, heavy-civil infrastructure projects.
- Experience overseeing heavy structural steel or major structural construction packages, including shop drawing and submittal review, field verification of installed work, and closeout.
- Experience administering construction contracts, including change management, request for information resolution, and progress payment review.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams of engineers, inspectors, and support staff.
- Working knowledge of critical path scheduling, cost control, and progress measurement on large construction contracts.
- Experience with industry standard project / construction management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Unifier, e-Builder, Procore, etc.).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction engineering, or construction management.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, Certified Construction Manager (CCM) through CMAA, or Project Management Professional (PMP) through PMI.
- Experience overseeing below-grade station, tunnel, or heavy structural packages exceeding $250M in construction value.
- Owner’s representative, program management, or construction management experience.
- Experience coordinating construction adjacent to active transit or rail operations, including work windows, access agreements, and safety certification.
- Experience overseeing shop fabrication and field erection of heavy structural steel members, including built-up sections, complex connections, and reinforcing frameworks, for below-grade structures.
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1 and D1.8, AISC 360 and AISC 341 seismic provisions, RCSC bolting specifications, and transit structural design criteria.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, Oracle Cloud Analytics, or other dashboard KPI reporting software.
