About the Position

We are seeking a motivated Business Development Associate or Manager (depending on experience) with a proven track record in conducting thorough market research and forming effective commercial and technology partnerships to join our growing organization. As a member of the Business Development team, you will report to the Sr. Director of Business Development. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead market research initiatives, assist in compiling thorough market assessments, map out value chains, benchmark competitors, perform competitive analysis, support pricing models, and support other business development activities. You will also get to experience working in a collaborative team environment.

 

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret complex data from various sources, including patent review, to generate insights and support business decisions
  • Market Research: Conduct market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive landscapes in the synthetic biology industry
  • Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather business requirements and translate them into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate findings, recommendations, and insights to stakeholders at various levels of the organization
  • Project Management: Assist in project planning, execution, and monitoring to ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Slide Deck Preparation:  Design and create slide decks for presentations and meetings to effectively communicate analysis results, business strategies, and project updates to stakeholders
  • Strategic Support: Support strategic planning initiatives, including business modeling, forecasting, and budget analysis
  • Documentation: Create and maintain documentation related to business processes, requirements, and project progress

Additional Responsibilities at the Manager level:

  • Execute the existing commercial and technology deals, while building and closing a pipeline of new opportunities to achieve corporate goals
  • Assist in structuring and closing partnerships across technology licensing, commercial offtake agreements and manufacturing partnerships
  • Prepare and present slide decks and materials for partner meetings, conferences and board meetings
  • Represent Lygos and present at key industry conferences and tradeshows

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • B.S. in a related technical field including but not limited to chemistry, engineering, material science, or biotechnology
  • 2+ years of experience in business development, market analysis, corporate development, consulting or investment banking
  • Prior experience in market analysis/research and compiling findings
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills

Nice-to-haves (but not required):

  • MBA
  • Experience supporting a new product launch and developing go-to-market strategies
  • Technical experience in chemistry, product development and a familiarity with our target end markets: agriculture, water treatment, personal/home care

 

Compensation and Benefits: Lygos offers highly competitive salaries, stock options, bonus and benefits, including medical and dental insurance, unlimited paid time off, and 401(k).

Salary Range: $90,000 - $168,000 (Associate or Manager) -  Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location, skill, experience, and performance.
