Sr Systems Engineer- Premier Networx, a Lyra Technology Group company
We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Sr Systems Engineer to join our team. Our Senior Engineers are strong in all the most common and popular networking and server technologies as well as some of the more mature ones. In addition to strong technical aptitudes, backed by at least five years of hard core in the trenches experience, this person is a powerful communicator and a person who can manage well when the client is in a pickle and needs strong guidance.
This person should be prompt and/or know the importance of communicating next steps and ETAs to clients. This person should be skillful at pre-project/work-briefings with each client on each project. This person should then be able to execute with a high degree of success in integrating and/or solving problems in environments rich in Microsoft Server, Exchange, SQL, cloud infrastructure (M365 or Google Workspace) web services, networking, VPNs, firewalls, backups, Linux, UNIX and more. The more truly capable the engineer is in all these areas, the higher the utility value. be a key escalation point for the service desk. You'll handle more complex technical issues that require deeper troubleshooting beyond the scope of Tier I, leveraging your expertise to resolve incidents both remotely and on-site. You’ll apply advanced troubleshooting methods and critical thinking to resolve a wide range of end-user and infrastructure-related issues. You’ll also support and mentor Level I Technicians and serve as acting Help Desk Lead when needed.

Your work as a Sr Systems Engineer has several components:
- Establish network environments by designing system configurations, directing system installation, and defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
- Design and implement new solutions and improve existing infrastructure.
- Service, configure, install, and maintain customers' IT equipment (Windows servers, workstations, routers, switches, AD, GPO, VPN, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, WAN, etc.).
- Manage and maintain Windows servers, routers, firewalls, wireless devices, switches, and other networking equipment.
- Configuring, installing, and troubleshooting: Windows server and workstation operating system (Win 8, 10, 11, 2012, 2016 & 2019); firewalls, managed switches, routers, WIFI systems; O365 suite. AD and its functions (Users/Groups, NTFS permissions, GP), MS SQL Server 2008 and higher. Networking: switches, routers, servers, cables, firewalls, LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, latency, VoIP, QoS.
- Working knowledge of either or both Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS
- Working knowledge of M365 components such as Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Security & Compliance, and ATP
- Daily time entry accounting for at least 9 hours in the form of Resolution Notes in Service Tickets
- Regular and timely completion of Minimum Documentation Standards for each client
- Execution and conclusion of projects on-time and/or successful management of client expectations when targets cannot be met
- Ability to communicate with client at all levels from end users, IT personnel and CxO’s and to understand business issues in context of IT issues
- Ability to pay close attention to detail while performing technically detailed tasks
- Ability and willingness to recognize when it is necessary to ask for technical expertise from others without unnecessarily burdening other team members
- Ability to provide accurate time estimates for how long a task will take
Our ideal Sr Systems Engineer has the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent in a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of related experience or equivalent; experience with a Managed Service company preferred.
- Advanced experience required: Windows Systems, Microsoft AD, Azure, Cisco, O365, SonicWall, Virtual Apps, and Desktops.
- Working knowledge of non-Cisco firewall technologies - SonicWALL, Sophos, Fortinet, WatchGuard
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server
- Working knowledge of wireless technologies Controller vs controllerless, mesh technology, SSID management, signal encryption, dynamic VLAN, RADIUS authentication
- Working knowledge of security fundamentals – endpoint protection, MFA, EDR/XDR, SOC, phishing, threat management
- Knowledge of MS Hyper-V/VMware or Azure administration and support.
- Knowledge of Office 365 administration with domain synchronization.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
- Acute attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects.
- Prior MSP experience preferred.
